Q: Anyone else experience prolonged bleeding out of their sinuses/throat/whatever?

Seems like since my last visit to China over a year ago, I've been bleeding continuously without end. Not sure why I'm not dead yet, but I'm pretty sure you shouldn't trust me. I've had a low-level nose/whatever bleed that lasts... forever. It comes out of my throat, nose, sinuses, whatever. It's always present, and I think it's making me sick.

I usually just let it drip down my throat and ignore it. I don't feel weak at all.

Right now it's about moderate, but i's been very horrible before. Obviously I should see a doctor, right? Is that even recommended here? An ENT, perhaps? I don't know if this is allergies, or correlates with the pesticide-seasoned dinner I ate a while back, but I'd like some relief.

Any remedies for this? Is physical exercise outside during smogstorms considered bad? I've been jogging a lot...

You should use a humidifier if it's too dry. Increase the iron in your diet (more dark green vegetables).

Take a multivitamin daily (Centrum 29) to compensate for whatever's missing in your diet.

Drink more beer. It won't necessarily help your physical condition (although the formaldehyde may preserve you and it seems that Chinese beer makes your bones stronger {a report that I cannot provide the link to at this time})...but you'll feel better.

I never take vitamins, and yeah... I'm always dry. Good advice.

You should see and seek advice for nose bleeding from certified MD, only!

I am not MD, so take my post with 'big shovel of salt'.

Nose bleeding is often result of high blood presure. Blood in your morning spit is most likely blood from your nose.

Otherwise, visible traces of blood in the morning spit is one of the early signs of cancer in respiratory tract (smokers).

You might experience nose bleeding because you inhaled particles (dirt) in O2 (during jogging?), which caused damage to your upper respiratory tract.

You could just measure your blood pressure in any Chinese hospital, and seek further advice from trusted MD.

Um, why haven't you seen a doctor???!!!

Get  your green butt to one NOW before we go Pogger-Hulk on it!!!!!

Hulk:

I've actually visited a doctor 3 times and had a full checkup (back home), including chest xray. Nothing showed up.

Was wondering if someone else had this in the form of allergies and whatnot.

Hulk, pay a visit to a doctor, the best you can find. Maybe not in your area, where you're living but if you have to, go to some bigger city or inquire online for good doctors before planning the trip. I am no doctor, obviously, that's why I teach, I wish I were a doctor, but from what you're saying it sounds like chronic syndrome already. You better rush. Take care Doug.

Hulk:

I hate doctors here. The biggest problem is the bait and switch tactics. You call up and ask how much it's going to cost, "Oh, don't worry. It will only cost X yuan!" But when you get there, and they see you're a foreigner, they charge 2-3 times more the the original cost.

you do not need to see a doctor. it is a simple nose bleed. walk around with tissues. but if you haven't had nose bleeds before do check your blood pressure.

Maybe Crimo is right but had I been in your shoes I would have asked a doctor. It makes sense the high blood pressure too as well as it could be anything worse. I wouldn't rely on something that would make me feel safer. That would be digging your head in the sand while the danger is still  there. OK! I understand that you hate the doctors and in China you have serious reasons like the ones you mentioned: being ripped off. Are all the docs this way? In such case find one that deserves the money, a professional one, only to be sure that it's nothing but a high blood pressure. Seriously, take it seriously this issue.

i have always had sinus problems and allergies my whole life anywhere in the world i lived , but in china if i have really good heat without a humidifier , i clear my nose every morning with blood, the humidifier usually solves the problem , also your skin will dry out on the back and have itching sensations between the shoulder blades.

sniffing warm salt water up your nose burns like hell but it usually seals the blood sores in the respiratory tract and stops the bleeding.

i have given up on allergy medications and doctors because physical never find anything wrong and one crazy doctor told me that it was good i had allergies to clear my sinuses because most people just have the toxins in their body instead of blowing them out and i would probably be healthier that way. somewhat radical and skeptical comment for me to believe.

You aren't alone with these sinuses. I've had nose bleeds here also. Heck my finger started bleeding for no apparent reason one day when I was in the apple store. Later I found that the manufacturer's in china as usual tried to make the screen faster so they didn't follow the process that they were supposed to and used another material.

You can find the article and read about this. Well a bunch of factory workers are no longer able to work because they have too been diagnosed with endless bleeding. What it was, was a chemical that they used when touched or used to much it could have side effects.

Have you bought any apple products let's say in the last 5 years or so here or visited any apple store or used someone's apple product? My finger started to bleed and it was weird because I have sensitive skin and I touched the screen. Later I read about this story and knew then right away why my finger started to bleed.

It only got worst for me after that as my fingernails started deteriorating. I tried the chinese medicine here because I thought I was gonna die. It didn't help! I went back home finally got my VA benefits and went to the doctor who prescribed me medicine and now I'm cured. NO thanks to chinese medicine, but Thanks to western medicine!

Hulk:

Thanks for your service!

Hmm, well... I avoid all Apple products. I hate them.

Well, I agree with the above. You should see a doctor.

On the other hand if you had nose bleeds for long time, it is common that nose bleeds get exacerbated by cold dry air. You can try to use a humidifier, and also minimize going out during cold dry days.

You are right, most doctors here want to rip you off before they diagnose any problem. If you want to minimize your expenses, you should go with someone who can speak Chinese well, then make sure the doctor gets full explanation of your situation before he/she starts to order any tests.

If they find you not able to explain your problem, this is what will happen: You will go to the ENT doctor, he will order blood tests and head CT scan, then he won't find anything  wrong with it (CT scan can't pick up nose bleeds), then will refer you to the pulmonologist who will order EKG and chest CT scan, which will come out normal. Next will be the gastroenterologist, who will order a barium meal and Ultrasound, will come out to be normal again. At this time you have spent a minimum of 1K rmb, there is no diagnosis made yet , so you get prescribed the magic medicine ( TCM pills and hot water)!

go see three doctors, if two of them give the same diagnosis and treatment, there is your answer.

Note.  Very important. You need to train the wife in the art of seeing doctors. She cannot reveal anything the previous doctors have said, the diagnosis must come purely from looking at you and you answering the questions in the same manner. (otherwise you might as well go see a fortune teller)

it is the dry air. get a humidifier. have you ever had nose bleeds in the past? and that's all it is nose bleeds. follow the instructions for what to do when havng a nose bleed. when i was a kid it was pinch your nose and hold your head back. that has changed, i do not know the new thing to do. but the old way works good for me.

now the joke answer:

stop using coke

I've almost never had them. The blood is actually just very light... it's always present, but in small quantities. Occasionally it's really freaky.

Yeah, there's a crapload of dry air here in my apartment. I need a humidifier or something, and to stop snorting coke.

It won't hurt going to see the doctor.  Even if it is just your sinuses, they shouldn't be bleeding, right?
