Q: Anyone else notice the obsession with twins in China?

I understand why it exists, but as with many things in China, it seems to be taken to extremes.

Twins is one of the legal (and free) ways to get around the 1 child policy.  Many women will pay for the chance of twins at fertility clinics and such.

Plus.. Twins are naturally superior to children born one at a time.  They are smarter, better looking, have an instant playmate, taller, stronger and will have the world at their feet.

Okay... I might be a little biased on that last part since I have twin boys.  But, it is true.  Just ask my wife.

Thakkudu:

The plus part might be correct in your case.. but nor general... they are "in general" not smarter or stronger or taller than single ones...

any scientific reason for the statement?

Xpat.John:

The scientific proof in Latin is called "Parentus Corectus".  Basically, as I said, I am biased in my opinion because I have twins.  If I had non-twins, I would say the opposite.  As every parent will tell you, every snowflake is different, but mine are 'special'.

John, I totally agree with you on this..I'm a twin as well. Everything you said is true. (better looking especially) angel

Today my wife and I were walking down the street and we spotted the rare Twins..she said,  and I quote, (Now everyone, remember I love this woman more than anything but...here goes).......she said......"Their parents must be rich, see they had twins"

Speechless, I was speechless. The naivety was priceless.

Xpat.John:

Actually, she wasn't far off.  Some richer people will go to fertility/invitro clinics and pay off doctors to make twins a higher probability.

I have twins. People ask me how that happened. Well, I used to buy beer, pants, shirts, etc., in sets of twos. Now, I buy everything in sets of four. My wife hates me now.

Xpat.John:

This reminds me of a Flintstone cartoon:

Fred waiting for Pebble's birth....

Little man stressed out....Oh dear..... Oh dear....

Fred to man, You new to this?

man, Oh no, I've been here before. My wife had a grapefruit for breakfast and the first child came right a way.
The next time she had 2 eggs for breakfast and we had twins.
Then she had 3 bowls of oatmeal and had triplets....

Fred, So what's the worry?

man, This morning she ate a dozen donuts! Oh Dear.......
