Q: Anyone ever get a multi-year contract at a public high school?

I have heard of some Universities doing it, but not sure if I have heard about any high schools doing it

what's the point if the longest RP they can provide is for one year?

Hulk:

I had the option to get a 2, 3 and 4 year residence permit at the PSB with my student visa. Opted for 1 because it was cheaper.

Samm11  above is correct, at least based on my own experience.  I have been offered long-term contracts, only to have them bounced back by the local FEB and then the PSB.  It's the one-year visa rule, I think.

I got an early Contract renewal offer from my Public Primary School in November, 2013. Present Contract expire by the end of April, 2014, when School will extend RP.

I've never seen Contract in China longer than 12 M.

I signed a 2 year contract with a high school in Wuxi.  It includes a bonus if I complete the contract.

Yeah any legal school can do this, but don't risk it..it depends on their trust in you and your abilities.

I am just finishing up a two year contract at a public high school myself.  Altogether I've been here close to three years now. Mind you that I work in very small town in Jiangsu Province.  The school and the local authorities have a very "good" relationship.  Things in small towns can get done faster and with less complications when everyone knows each other and cooperate harmoniously.

One thing I learned in China is that nothing is impossible.

I my case it helped that I prefer to live in quiet places.  Also the administration deems me as a more desirable foreigner.  Of the last foreign teachers I was told about, one skipped town on his second month, another brought in two ladies of the night into his apartment (inside school no less), and another guy liked to hug his male students too closely.

For my school, it is better to deal with the devil they know than the devil that might come after.

So yes, when a few sets of circumstances come together you can have a multi-year contract.

Thanks, I was just looking for some proof that it could be done

Icnif 77 This is something else I want to see if I can get set up. I really don’t want my visa held up, during my time off. If they need to set on my Visa for several weeks then I want it done when I am required to work, not when I want to play. So how is it that your contract will expire at such an odd time?

icnif77:

1-Y Contract with the beginning of work on May 3rd, 2013, and expiration on the same day, next year. Funny, that Contract is longer than 1 year (366 days). RP expire on the same day. In November, I spoke to the FAO at my School, and told her that I would like to know about Contract extension at least 3 M before our current Contract expire.

She came back of the Headmaster, and confirmed School would like to extend our Contract till May, 2015. In February, 2014, I'll ask her for the new Contract sign. With FAO, I meant 'English speaking Chinese teacher'.

I am confused your school has a FAO? I am in a small town and the FAO is a part of the city government not the school. May I ask where are you teaching ? Is it a public high school? How many students.

I am at the Public Primary School in Fukang, Xinjiang. I am working with Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6. I teach two grades (14 Classes) every week. School should have 2 FT, but I'm the only one at the moment. Some 50 students in each of 28 Classes. I never count students in the Class.
