Q: Anyone ever have surgery in China?

What was the treatment like? I went into a hospital that was next to where I lived to ask something. The nurse wore a filthy uniform. I didn't like to see that. I wrecked my knee in China. The swelling has never gone down. I finally went to see my doctor in Canada. I tore the cartilage and a ligament. Medicine at home isn't great with all the waiting, it's 6 to 8 months just to talk to a surgeon. Would you have to wait that long in China?

Hey! I had to have my gallbladder removed last December. I went to the Huashan hospital in Shanghai. All the doctors and nurses were amazing! I was really worried before the surgery but now I can definitely tell people not to worry about it. I did not have to wait long, once the hospital received confirmation from my health insurance that they would cover the cost of the surgery I could basically have surgery as soon as I wanted. All in all it only took a couple of days in total for me to arrange the surgery. It would have taken a ridiculous amount of time if I had to have had the surgery removed back home in Ireland. I can honestly say that I was totally impressed by the health system here in China, well in Shanghai at least!

Best of luck!

Yes twice, once in a private hospital for attempted reversal of a vasectomy and once for a broken leg in an e-bike accident. The first time was a private hospital, excellent doctors, nurses and customer service partly because a foreigner chose their hospital. They took my picture for their newsletter! The second time was a public hospital deemed the best in town. It was good but oh so crowded; I slept in the hallway one night and the next night was in a VIP room as it was the only one available. My surgeon and supporting doctors were friendly, skillful and communicative. The equipment, knowledge and rooms are just fine, in fact advanced in my province of Jiangsu.

So my conclusion: take the plunge as long as you have a Chinese wife, girlfriend, friend or helper.

Never had the surgery, however I am remaining sceptical. Also from Ireland but have  lived here for 6 years. Three [3] years past I received a serious dog bite. I went straight to the hospital which was only 3 minutes away. I was advised to just wash it under cold water for 2 hour!!!!!!!!.  I left and attended another near-by hospital who gave a series of injections over the next few weeks, I was happy enough, but  still unsure. About two [2] months later I became unwell, coughing, the high temperature and pain around the lung department. Once again attending the hospital I was given an x-ray and medicine and advised that I had  coldh. However I had thought very different. Still the symptoms persisted for maybe 10 days and I was having great difficulty in breathing. I cancelled classes and phoned my other half , telling her that I was unwell and was returning to the hospital again I was told it was the flu symptoms. After feeling really unwell I decided I was returning to London or Ireland for a second opinion. My wife went nuts because I cancelled so many lessons and told me the students were most important, [ I owned the school' I told her my health was also important and that I was no help to students if I was sick. I went straight to Shanghai and flew to London then on home to Ireland. All picture and no sound in the one [1] hour drive to the airport and at the airport, Not even a bye bye take care. At home I live 4 minutes from the airport, my daughter collected me took me home and left the baggage off, cup of tea and straight to the hospital 3 minutes away. I spent the next 10 days recovering in hospital, as it was discovered within minutes that I had the very large Pulmonary Embolism in the lung. Doctors queried as to why I had not attended the hospital much sooner! after explaining the circumstances and showing the the x-ray  and doctors notes from the China hospital they could not believe how the diagnosis was missed, and  expressed the concern as to why the long flight and cabin pressure had not 'called time' on me. I was advised not to return to return to China for at least 3 months. Also whilst at home I had the bloods and other test carried out with regards to the dog bite.  All was cleared. Did I return to my wife, No is the answer. However I returned to China and opened another school. We all know our own bodies and we have the feeling something is just not right. Fortunately my feeling proved correct, If I'd had followed the wife's advice,  I would not be writing this. Good luck and good health everyone.
