Q: Anyone ever swam in a river/lake in China?

I'm sure I'm gonna all the obvious pollution-related answers for this question, but I'm wondering if anyone has at all? The locals seem to love to take a dip in the various lakes and rivers here (though I'm sure they're oblivious to the risks) but what about you guys? Ever done it? Lived to tell the tale?

I dipped my hand in the Li River, nothing happened, still have the hand.

The locals are also dying of cancer and an increasing rate. I would stay out of the water almost anywhere in this country. Do not even want to dip my feet in the South China Sea

No. I have too much respect for my body (despite it's outward appearance) to risk immersing it in water that could possibly harm it more.

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
