Q: Anyone have experience w/ C.I.T.A - China International Teachers Association?

These guys are advertising a job in Shenzhen Bao'an district.  Haven't been able to find any foreign teachers that have worked with them before.  One guy posted a hysterical message on craigslist shenzhen to avoid but gave no details.

Anyone who has experience with these guys your input would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm in Shenzhen, I haven't heard of them in my many years here.. But as ScotsAln said Y8-to-Y10K won't get you any where, nor will you save anything, even in Baishizhou the real China slums cost Y2000 to Y3000 for a small and I mean very small apartment. Y500 for a room with 5 guys in it...

But I can say this, never trust anything in Bao'An district, it's the outer city part of Shenzhen where most of the llegal schools, or training centers do their work because most PSB crackdown don't happen in that area... But Bao'An is known for its crime, more theft and a little unsafe in some parts, its a factory area, not all bad, but not the ideal place to work, yet, still needs time to grow and develop.

Sounds like you're an illegal teacher, (like the front page of this site talks about.) Otherwise why choose a low paying job in Bao'An district? There are tons and I mean tons of great jobs in Shenzhen as of now because we don't have enough guys or ESL teachers to fill them, no, it cost too much for most new comers to like it here. We're slowly becoming the same cost of HK.

I wouldn't trust this school, the guy who posted that article on the school should be trusted..Why? Only because its in Bao'An. Look in Futian, if you need a job I've got connections in WEB, WallStreet and METEN.. Do you have a BA Degree and all the other stuff?

I would ask the same question on Shenzhen stuff.

The company you mention have an interesting English website. Just enough to be convincing, but not enough to convince me they are "Government" connected. Pretty much a standard template and cut and paste FAQs

They say they are a non profit organisation. Erm.. Why?  Why, for example, would they be based in SZ, and not out in the sticks where help is really needed. Could it be related to the GDP of SZ?

Salary--- 8-10k a month. Sounds good. But won't get you far in SZ.  You will have to work 2 or 3 months to pay your return airfare.

Holidays... a bit mean. Chinese new year and Golden week. But they say you will be working at public schools and not training centers. So what will you be doing during the school summer holidays when the public schools are closed?

But hey... I'm not a teacher so I know nothing.

But I will say, the Chinese version of their website looks very Chinese. As in official Chinese.

I would check with SAFEA to find out if their claim to be connected is true. Strange their is no link to testimonials from SAFEA, or photos of certificates.

Just have a look through any thread here to find a post by Icniff77... the instructions on how to contact SAFEA are in every post he makes wink.

Sorry, not much help, but my answer puts your question on the main board to be seen.

Good luck.

Nah expat. It's just an agency with a fancy name. Have a look at their website. I was almost expecting to see an application fee... but nope, no application fee.

I have heard of them I think the deal is okay. I heard they don't always get you the right visa and that they are unprofessional sometimes.  They are a real company but they like to use the bait and switch method by offering one job and then hitting you with another one.

expatlife26:

yeah but it's been established that you're a troll who makes things up and not a real person.

You were the guy posting all those stupid anonymous "Fired by text message! Bummer!" questions again and again and again

So your opinion raises doubts.

I personally know and have met a few people who have worked with them. They're legit. Although 8-10k is a crappy salary, especially in Shenzhen.

TheShadowBroker:

Thanks for your response.  I only have to work till 5pm Mon - Fri...would you suggest working a couple hours in the evening at a private school to make extra?   Chances of getting caught?

Thanks again for your input.

hi2u:

I recommend just find some home tutoring gigs. Work for other companies on the side at your own risk, though most foreign teachers probably do that. Don't know how risky it is anymore.
