Q: Anyone heard of Death dowries?

I made my wife call her mother the other day...and shame on me...

She has a very strained relationship with her parents. But, since she arrived with me in the west a few months back she hasn't even called them. I told her it was cruel to move abroad and not phone her parents to let them know how she's doing, I harrased her until she called them.....

Wish I hadn't, it wasn't long until they were in a trans-pacific argument because her mother gave 1,000 kuai on her behalf to her sister's family because her brother in law's father passed away. Her Mom wants her to pay the money back and my wife was ticked that her mom gave 1,000 for the death of someone she only met one time.

Then her mom got on her case because we aren't living at my parents' house.

"What did you do to make them kick you out?" She insisted on asking my wife.

My wife explained to her that in North America an adult living with their parents, let alone a married one, is looked down upon.

Anyway, wasn't aware of these dowries for dying. I should see about getting some in advance. Anyone else seen this?

And from now on I'm keeping my beak outta their relationship.
