Q: Anyone heard of ELTIC ESL? Good, Bad, or Ugly?

I am getting a lot of spam from this company to teach for them 6 hours a day five days a week for 12,000.  Are they legit? I cannot find a web site for them or any other information, other that they are in Beijing and supposedly "foreign-owned and operated."  Anyone out there ever hear of them or work for them?  Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I have never heard of them, and if there is no web-page or information online, they are probably not legit.

However, if you are interested, you should call.

That having being said, they are in Beijing and I for one would not work there again as the on-going serious pollution is a cause for concern.

It is up to you - and good luck!

Do you know the name of the guy who runs ELTIC ESL ? A guy named Michael Cavill ? I found (bad) references for an "ELTIC Global" school, but it was not in Beijing.

Thanks Dr. Monkey, the owner's name is indeed "Michael" but I cannot find out his last name or the Chinese name of the business.  I am in no rush to get burned so I will assume it is the same guy and start checking all the blacklists another user shared with me. Do you have a link to Micahel Cavill that you can share?

DrMonkey:

I just put the name of the school in Bing, and the name popped-up, nothing more, not 1st or 2nd hand knowledge. I myself never been ESL teacher. ;)

Eltic ESL?   That is a new name for them. Try Eltic Global and before that they were UKEI. Michael Cavill and they are a Hong Kong company. But office is in Shenzhen.

They bring you to China on a tourist visa and tell you it is perfectly fine to work... it is not and you will get trouble if caught. They will pay you around 4000 RMB a month, however the school will pay him maybe 10000-12000 RMB per month. That will be for 3 months then you may get 8-9000 RMB.

I worked about 2 months for Eltic and told Cavill I would leave.  I received a lot of verbal threats which I ignored; that was stupid.  Next day the police arrived at the school and arrested me.  I spent the day in the police station and paid a nice big 'fine'.

Check out the above company names for more

A:You can still skin into China as a non-English native teacher by holding English Teaching license in your home country.2nd: Your BA degree should be completed in a native English country. Once, you fulfilled these 'parameters', you qualify for an English teaching job in China as a non-native English sneaker with Z - Entry/working visa with Working and Residence permit later on. See the last 'Answers Highlight' ---> there is a web link posted about 'requirements for teaching English language in China as a non-English native passport holder'. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china#paragraph-item-63614-target

*English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa). If you aren’t a native speaker, you’ll need to be a certified teacher in your home country with proof of your English proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL). I'd say, Chinese will choose and look especially for a native English speaker at teaching of English Literature job openings. Posted job adverts for English Literature teaching are most likely from International Schools in China. Good luck! -- icnif77
