Q: Anyone here ever thought about driving back to Europe ?

I read a piece about a Englishman who drove from Shanghai to Moscow and on to London in the 1920s.
Anyone here ever thought about doing it?

I haven't  thought about driving - but certainly training.

Trans-Siberian, then from Moscow to Istanbul, then across the rest of Europe,

Are you setting-up new e-Titties bash?

No, I wasn't thinking about EU. I had Ozz and New Zealand in me mind....

philbravery:

Actually I wonder if there is a way to do that?

it would be noteworthy for sure!  Tape it and get BBC to make it into a documentary.  I'm guessing in the 1920's people weren't driven crazy about visa's, which would probably be the biggest difficulty one would face trying to do it these days.  But honestly, I didn't think cars were very advanced in the 1920's,,, surprised any of them could make that run!  but,,, I don't know much about cars.

anyway, go for it, and document it!

*but it would be cooler on motorcycles,,, BMW I suggest.

Ewan MacGregor already did exacty that a couple years ago sadly . But the guy in the 1920s drove across the desert and up from there through places not even spell check can help me with

I would consider doing it on a motorcycle during nice weather. Would be the trip of a lifetime.

I did a trip with a Venezuelan student on motorcycles for the summer 1983 from San Diego to the bottom of South America, but America and Nicaragua were having a problem and my American passport got us in jail, but my friends father was a diplomat, so after 2 days we were released to finish the Pan American Highway to the bottom.

Is there a path to Europe  that does not cross a predominately Muslim country, I'm game, let's do it this summer.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
