Q: Anyone know of any statistical analysis of the Gaokao ?
I tend to think girls as a whole out score boys, but I can’t find anything on the web about who does better. I am also wondering had there been any analysis on how much more earning power a Chinese national has over their life time if they are fluent in English. I mean exceptional not just so –so

Statistics in China aren't very statistical. That is to say, the numbers don't represent quantitative data so much as Communist Party opinions.
According to the Beijing Institute of Sciency Data:
A person fluent in English earns, on average, 46% less than a non-English-speaker, and English-speakers usually get AIDS.

I'm interested in this topic too. My girlfriend said that girls outscore boys. I will get her to look for some statistics later.
This page has a lot of interesting information, but at first glance, I couldn't see anything about gender.

Then again would we believe them if they did? I worry (maybe) I am biased towards the girls since they are usually 1000 times more respectful and much more outgoing, but in reality I think they are better students all the way around. I think the vast majority of girls work so much harder and actually care about doing a good job.

The same in my experience. I teach English major students, 90% of whom are girls, but almost all the problems with performance, attendance and attentiveness in class come from boys.
I've heard a few times that Chinese girls outperform boys. Too bad girls can't get positions of responsibility or authority in China.
