Last year my school hired a new teacher. Over the summer holiday, he took a trip to Hong Kong and lost his wallet.

Shortly after that, he met a recruiter who offered to get him some quick work so that he could pay his way back to Nanjing. Unfortunately, the recruiter immediately reported him to the police. Deported and banned from entering china for 5 years. Suckes; apparently he had just recently proposed to his girlfriend.

Also, I have to cover his classes.

That really sucks. I hate having to cover other people's classes.

I know an Austrian guy who went to HK for a business visa. They said no. Gave him a 14 day tourist visa to collect his stuff and fuck off.

Although information is scarce at this time, a contact at the PSB has leaked that 229 foreign teachers working in China were arrested in th elast 30 days for working illegally without a Z Visa in Beijing and Shanghai.  At first the CSP was told the number was 29 teachers but we learned yesterday that was a miscommunication.

Yes, but it wasn't visa related.

A guy I knew of was deported for after he tested positive for drugs. The way I heard it he liked to hit the bong and wasn't very discreet about it. He told the wrong person who told the police and that was his time in China finished.

ScotsAlan:

That would do it Stiggs.

I rarely come across a foreigner here that shocks me ( we are all mad to be here after all), but on the one or two occasions I have been shocked it has been because they are shit faced on drugs.

I have nothing against drugs, but some people do seem to take the easy going attitude of Chinese Police to be a permit to be an A-hole of such proportions that they would be looking at time inside at home.
