I cannot help you as I am not in Shenzhen but some pointers

Do not give the laptop to a repair shop without having a backup first. Personally I pulled out the hard drive to have a service place give an offer on replacing the fan in my laptop.

is it "just a software problem" or do you have hardware that is failing

If the latter and you are capable of installing the operating system yourself, consider simply buying a new hard drive, keep the old one as back up. If you buy an SSD you can get it as a kit that allows transferring existing system. Instead of using this to transfer the old, this can be used to salvage data after installing the OS from scratch. The operation of replacing the hard drive is for most laptops very easy

Depending on brand you should be able to find a service manual online. For example Lenovo has service manuals that has event the tiniest of details on how to change specific parts.

Thanks Scand.

My laptop is five years old plus now, so it's done very well.  Is a multi-media gaming laptop.

It's huge - got a 19 inch screen.  Weighs 6Kg.

The laptop was bought in the UK but it has always had a problem of some sort.  It works well at present, but, trying to delete Chinese software is a nightmare for one, and I can't get rid of some it it.

I think the hardware is still ok with exception to the disk-drive which has never read all of my CDs etc.  However, an upgrade would not go amiss.

The software is cracked and I think this is one of the big issues.

In Saying this, neither IE or Google open on my laptop easily, and IE definitely has a problem with my laptop.

Aside from this, Shockwave on Google keeps crashing.

Scandinavian:

if it is 5 years old it is probably near retirement, but it depends on what you need it for. Changing the old hard drive with an SSD really boosts life into sluggish hardware. Adding more memory if possible and it may feel like a brand new laptop. And of course a fresh OS installation is always a help.
