Q: Are all foreigner men Playboys in the eyes of chinese people?

Alot of girls are afraid of us and do not trust us and think we change girls like we change clothes.....do you think it is because we are all generalized to be 'Playboys'?

Not everyone thinks like this, although there are always the ones who think we come just to steal their women. Stereotypes exist everywhere, for instance all Shanghai women are spoilt, pretentious gold-diggers. Now while that may be true for some I am sure there are some genuinly nice ladies there, however I have not been to Shanghai yet so maybe I am wrong. This idea probably stems from the idea that all westerners are rich and have a much better life in their own countries compared to the average Chinese person here, so that it is very easy for westerners to find girlfriends and wives. Once the Chinese see the majority of westerners with  a Chinese girl on his arm then they think we are just playboy's. Like most ideas in the Chinese mind they do not think it through more thoroughly, if they did they would discover that we are like everyone else, some good some not so good. The Chinese do like to take a lot at face value without looking too critically and that is how the stereotype begins.

i agree with what you said mate....good point of view but when it comes to shanghai ladies....shanghai is the most glamorous city with alot of pulse and material and some seductive material which makes money important.....as fancy as you want to be in shanghai as much as you seek money so i do understand the life style nowdays influenced a lot of people like in shaqnghai

I'm guessing it just a stereotype ingrained in their minds. Sadly it will take a while for them to change their prejudices and steretupes.

At Createach,

I don't want to be rude but Are you Chinese?

It got me thinking when you wrote "foreigner men " instead of "foreign men" since alot of my  Chinese friends make the same mistake on a daily basis. Just an observation.

Createach:

sorry for that....actually am from UK ........i guess i got used to that mistake since i lived long enough....sorry again mate.....and actually i want to see the Chinese reply to this question cause am really tired of this thought of generalizing us as ''Playboys'

we are in china......you think i will say ' i am a foreigner ' if i was Chinese?!!!!

Second of all let's stop debating on whether am Chinese or not cause that do not make sense.....nothing will be gained just making fools out of ourselves.

The other thing is if you really do not like Chinese or think you are better than Chinese then just go back home.....WHY ARE YOU HERE?!!!!!.......I STAY HERE I RESPECT THEM.....DO WHAT ROMANS DO....AND I WILL SAY THIS BUT YOU ARE REALLY A FOOLISH PERSON DEBATING OVER STUPID MATTERS

I do apologise for the mistypos in my answer ( I guess I've gotta proofread my answer before posting) ;-).

I don't particularly like to judge people but on  this occasion I must really ask Are you really from the UK?. I was actually born there one of my parents is English but immigrated to South America, when I was  only 2 years of age and lived there for almost half of my life. Honestly  I can fairly say  my first language is Spanish . That said, I don't actually go around telling people I'm from the UK and that I am a Native speaker of that said country. I'm really grateful and proud to have been brought and raised in such a diverse latin culture rather than portraying myself to others  as something that I am not

Have a good day.

Bona:

Guys, what are you trying to prove by disputing the 'fact' that Createach is from the UK?

1. From your observations, Createach is not a native speaker of English ( as that seems to be your main concern). The thing is: coming from the UK does not make a person a native speaker of English. I have an Indian friend whose parents moved to Canada some 2 years ago. Canada is now where he comes from....so he tells everybody he is from Canada. Is he right to say that? He is....but when u look at the English he writes it's easy to tell he is not a native speaker of the language. However, I'm neither alleging Createach is not a native English speaker nor disputing that he comes from the UK....I'm only looking at your arguments guys.

2. You are focusing on such elements of his writing as 'am' as evidence Createach is not from the UK/ a native speaker of English. Come on guys, look at how care free native speakers of the language on this forum are when they post questions/answers/comments.....and the fact that one is a native speaker doesnt in itself give a guarantee that they will write perfectly...I have seen that with so many friends of mine who are native English speakers. Even in my own country ( which is in Africa), I have had to edit numerous silly language mistakes by speakers of our native language when they write in our Bantu language. So I think this 'u are not a native English speaker' debate should be left out of this discussion....and as Createach rightly said, let's focus on the question itself, rather than this aspect, which, in my view, doesn't take us anywhere.

The cultural difference that men should give their undivided attention to the 1 and only girl. I hardly even see Chinese guys checkin' out girls on the street. Crazy, they don't know what they have on front of them. No wonder girls wear what they wear here!

1. In China - girl usually have few partners before marriage. In west - there is nothing wrong if one have a dozens Smile So if a man had in one year more partners then she had in her entire life... what do You think she will think of him? Smile (Yeah, stereotypes)

2. Lot of foreigners in China is getting use of their money (They have much more of them then average Chinese), spending it in the clubs, bars, KTVs... sometimes every night. They also frequently visits massage centers and "massage centers". For a what reason? Welll Smile So how would You name a person who spends a lot of money like that? Even in western society it could be named "acting like a playboy". Off course there are not only people like this. Maybe there is a minority of them... but They are loud and VERY visible Smile

So... there are social stereotypes... but westerners creates it too.
