I have not seen any and I have asked a few people who just gave me a "nobody use left hand" answer.
They don't let children use their left hands for writing or using chopsticks. I used to date a girl who was very clearly left handed (she caught things and texted with her left hand) but used chopsticks bizarrely (crossing them) and had really messy writing because she always used her right hand for those things. When we met a left-handed American she (and everyone else Chinese) had a weird spaz at the idea of someone using their left hand for those things.
My understanding is that it was the same way for my grandparents generation, though, in the west.
thier are but you have to get special chopsticks one that left handers can use lol
To my knowledge being left-handed is viewed as a sign of weakness or a defect. Left-handed children are forced to learn to write and basically function with their right hands at an early age. It's such a big deal that my left-handed coworker tells me that as soon as he writes for the first time in a new class the whole class without fail always comments on the fact that he is left-handed.
when i was yong, the older men pay attenton on children use left-handed, at that time ,people think left-handed is kind of defect.so parents forced children use their right-handed. but now more and more people realize that is natural, and some research reveal the left-hand people more clever than right-hand. and chinese noticed: the president Obama is left-handed.
So we are agreed that traditionally lefthandedness has long been discouraged worldwide.
What it has produced is almost-ambidextrous people!
One of my friends eats righthanded with her chopsticks, whilst doing calligraphy with her left.
Fortunately, she is not a messy eater!
;-P
The explanation I got, from both Chinese and Japanese people, was that since Chinese characters are made to be written with the right hand, they force their children to use their right hand for everything else, to be sure.
I'm left handed and I've always had trouble with the order in which you're supposed to draw each line in a character, so that makes sense to me.
But using chopsticks isn't hard, though (and it impresses people..).
Teach yourself to use chopsticks left handed, it's a great way to get entertainment out of people when they stare at you while you eat. When I'm being watched, I end up grabbing a second pair of chopsticks and eat with both hands at the same time. Their eyes almost post out of their heads when they see it.
It's a way to get some fun out on a potentially annoying situtation. Or have even more fun by challenging them to try it as well.
