It all depends on a person's view. What you may find annoying others may find entertaining.

I'm not sure which is worse: when western hipsters wear tasteless clothing and unnecessary glasses ironically. Or when Chinese hipsters wrap themselves in suffocatingly tight clothes, get Justin Beaver haircuts, and wear fake glasses from the genuine depths of their hearts.

However, western hipsters don't ask me to be their foreign friend, or scream "HALLUUUUUU" in my ears at the top of their lungs so I'm giving the annoying prize to Chinese hipsters. The other day, I was on a short business trip, and a Chinese hipster asked to my friend, begged for my phone number, etc, and I told him I was busy (I was, I had a meeting I wanted to get ready for). He actually followed me into the hotel, asked for my room number, barged into my room, then begged me to be his foreign friend because he wanted to impress a girl. I kept telling him to get out, but he wouldn't listen. The the important person I was supposed to be meeting in the lobby came up and thought I was a fucking nutjob for hanging out with some 22 year old with a Justin Beaver haircut. Fuck Chinese hipsters.

Wow, you really seem to attract the crazies. Do you put off special pheromones or something? Maybe you could sell them as a love potion for Chinese girls.

This was a city of about 200,000, in the middle of nowhere (two hour bus ride from the closest city). I don't think they get too many foreigners around.

With their tight fitting clothes, carrying man purses, crazy haircuts and holding hands with other guys sometimes, I was convinced when I first arrived that half the young males here were gay.
Now it is obvious that most are just flaming metrosexuals.
But I don't care...they don't bother me and I certainly don't bother them.
Can you imagine what the local reaction would be to a hard-core death metal nut at home covered in tats and piercings if he showed up here?

I've always found skinny jeans and lenseless glasses to be particularly repugnant wherever they're found. Also, showing off your Apple products in public spaces is annoying to me.

Let me state at the begining that I think anything fake is slightly annoying, so, in that context I would have to say that as far as Chinese vs. Western hip is concerned, Chinese hipsters are the most bothersome of the two, because their "hip" is obviously manufatured, based upon what they like, and often results in a mixture of items and attitudes to produce a certain persona.

The Chinese version is certainly more noticable, if only because it contrasts so loudly with the rest of their society. One of the reasons is the way that culture works. What the Chinese general population is exposed to is usually a caricature of the real thing. The majority of true "cutting edge culture," be it fashion, language, or response, is just too new for it to be portrayed in films, music, etc., so, in general, by the time that the Chinese public is exposed to "hip," it has already worked itself into mainstream Western culture and "back home" is no longer considered hip.

The cultural curve, as it were, is usually around 5 years behind the times. Advertising is much more in tune, because companies (especially clothing lines) pay very good money to focus groups to receive information on what is "in" at the moment. But that can change very, very quickly.

Once a Chinese hipster locks onto his desired look, he keeps that look, giving little regard for the fluid nature of "hipness." So, in essence, he ties himself to a specific visage in time; a look which is usually outdated before he adopts it!

To those westerners who know the difference, the result is often laughable.
