Q: Are Chinese holidays sneakily timed so workers' pays are docked?

Most of the Chinese people I know earn a salary based on how many days they come into work. Take that into consideration and last month we had the 2 week CNY holiday, soon we've got the Tombsweeping holiday, then the May 1st holiday all in consecutive months. Am I just seeing things or are these holidays designed so companies/officials make savings on worker's wages?

As I understand it the public holidays are paid holidays by Chinese law. So if their contract says they must work 25 days a month and there is one days public holiday, that month they only need to work 24.

What hisses a lot off is the 'extra days' are usually tied to working a weekend before or after a holiday which often leads to a situation where to get 3 days off they have to work 12 days straight.

Yes, I hate this system, give us free weekend just for only to work 10 or more days in a row :(

I think employers tend to add extra days of work. Many seem to include a substitution day for the public holiday as well.

they are still paid their full salary. many workers actually got about a week off for cny. and they had to work every weekend to make up for it.

Scandinavian:

so they get their full pay for putting in the full amount of hours, that equals they have gotten no time off, just had a reshuffle of their working time. it's a scam to make people believe they get freedom

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
