12 years 4 weeks ago in Money & Banking - China
The value of anything will depend largely on how much someone wants it, and availability, of course. For some, and Chinese among others, jade is rare and beautiful, thus willing to pay large sums for the proper pieces to show off as a measure of their wealth.
Others use, for the same purpose, things like gold, silver, platinum, diamonds and other precious stones, works of art (paintings, carvings, statues, etc). Even some automobiles have become status symbols.
And I even know some that buy themselves a "pretty face" to show off as a "trophy wife",
Who remembers Onassis and whom he married from America ?.
The day jade becomes fashionable elsewhere, others will join the lines to purchase it.
