In response to blellow's question, I think the opposite. I think Chinese men and women are getting fatter. Been here for a while.
Sedentary lifestyle? Check! Lowered time for P.E. in school and work? Check! More fast foods (let's not kid ourselves, even the "Chinese" brands are still sugar, oil, and trans fats).? Check! I'm already married so no need for girls to look their best? Check!
Jeez, even my head is getting fatter!
Yes, read it recently somewhere. I don't have a link but you could probably google an article easily enough.

The advantage of being fat for the Chinese males is that then they tshirt is easier to make stay above the belly bottom on a warm day.
Most definitely, changes in diet and lifestyle, more meat, sugar, fat, etc... less exercise, less walking. I see plenty of Chinese fatter than me nowadays, and I'm not that slim.
According to the World Food Programme, obesity is increasing in every country of the world (by varying proportions, obviously).
Some interesting stats about China can be found here:

Chewbacca:
every country? I guess there is no such thing as famine anymore...yeah!
Kaiwen:
I think you've lost the meaning Chewbacca. The WFP are not suggesting that there is no longer famine. They are at the forefront of fighting malnutrition and famine. The meaning is that the incidence of obesity is increasing in every country rather than getting less. Even in countries where severe famine is a problem, there are still incidences of severe overweight or obese people and the problem is getting worse year on year.
There's definitely changes in eating habits as society progresses. In a certain extent, local Chinese are leading a healthier lifestyle , such as, there are lesser smokers (more social smokers rather than chain smokers), younger people drink more red wine than baijiu. I notice that there is also an increase in using of vegetable oil or live oils in cooking. However, modern processed food and snacks that people consumed nowadays are a great concern.
Yes, definitely. I've found that many Chinese people have no idea that McDonalds, KFC etc.... is bad for you. Their eating habits are changing, but with absolutely no awareness about healthy food and a balanced diet. I also read somewhere that the diabetes rate in China is skyrocketing, but most Chinese don't even know what diabetes is.
In 2004, to see someone even moderately filled would be so rare it would be worth a photograph by many locals. Now I have seen some people who are out of control obese in China. Absolutely, Chinese are getting fatter and when people get richer, they eat more.
no doubt at all..Chinese are getting bigger, both fatter and taller...more food now.
For sure. And many Chinese are skinny fat. They don't look heavy, but what they do have is all flab. Also, their waist to hip ratio is very unhealthy. Diabetes time bomb. Invest in Rx companies that produce insulin, glucose meters and so on.
