Q: Are Chinese people suspicious over Westerner?

I don't know if anybody is living the same experience as I do, but I noticed people here look at me like I'm a criminal of some sort. When i go do my groceries, people look at me like i'm about to steal something. When on the bus Chinese women either get up to stand as far as possible while holding their purse like i'm about to mug them.

I may be exagerating a bit, but you get the picture. Are we suspicious to them?

I think it depends on you and what city you're in. As a female, people stare at me because I'm a foreigner. But I haven't noticed them looking suspiciously at me. My male friends have had some of the same experiences as you. I think it's because they're tall and they kind of stand out.

Some old people are, but most of them are just like "Look at that foreigner." "I wonder if he's a teacher." "You speak English practice your English say hello!" or "A foreigner is coming we should say hello - omg yes what a good idea, oh wait I wont" And the grocery store it's like "What's he eating?" "Do they sell hamburgers here?" "I thought foreigners like McDonalds."

Usually it's followed by "hey he can hear" and "no no he can't understand what I'm saying"

Occasionally they'll talk about how Obama did some anti-chinese thing hundreds of years ago or something but mostly just idle chatter.

The women being afraid thing is because they all think we are crazy sex monkey rapists, so that one is genuine suspicion. But as for stealing, no. They think we are all Bill Gates rich, so that's the last thing on their mind.

They give you the dead eyes a lot, but that's just because they tend to be less expressive in general. Cultural thing or something I dunno what's up with the dead eyes.

I get a few looks as there are not too many foreigners in the area I live, but in general I just feel I am treated quite normally.

If you'd stop making that face in your profile pic, they might stare less Wink

You'll always be a foreign devil until proven otherwise. Just conduct yourself properly and you'll get a good reputation in your area.

As a girl, yeah, people tend to stare at me. It's never been a bad type of stare though. My Chinese friends say it's because they like my pale skin and "big eyes." Back home I'm just average looking though, seems kind of silly.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
