Q: Are Chinese schools corrupted?

Have any parents here (Chinese or Foreigner) had to give a "hongbao" to a Chinese school for them to accept their child ?
I know some Chinese families had to do it.
What's your experience about it?

http://www.whypoverty.net/ one of the documentaries is about schools in China being there to make money and not to educate. have not seen it myself yet, I would guess CCTV will not be showing the series. the specific documentary is by Weijun Chen

The beauty of the corrupted school system.

Rich guy pays his offspring through the school system

Offspring graduates with high grades without having any skills

Rich guy has a friend who runs Company, as there is good guanxi, offspring gets a very good position at friends company

Friend realizes that he has hired an incompetent person, but cannot loose face by admitting his mistake. Offspring is set for life, or at least until Company has accumulated enogh incompetence to no longer be viable

The whole of the Chinese education system is corrupt from top to bottom. People ask why there is no apparent development from this obsession with examinations in Chinese education establishments. The answer is simple. It is a means to an end for corrupt teachers, professors and leaders. It is not a problem to the parents so long as they have sufficient resources to buy a satisfactory grade.

The heartbreaking thing is the poor people who have to work hard for everything they get. They are the ones that get left behind. The idle, good-for-nothing lumps of brown stuff that sit at the back of the classroom sleeping or playing on their mobile phones get the benefits. Not able to get satisfactory grades on merit, their parents simply buy them. The result is this shambolic society where key people cannot do their jobs properly after they graduate.

i often get gift from students parents but i tell them to stop, its my job and i will do the best i can, even one parent told me look after my son make sure he learns a lot of english, i told him to stop giving me gifts and to tell his son to behave and i will do the rest. i often hear that the relationship between student and teacher is different here but that doesnt give anyone the right to abuse their power, one student was asked by a teacher to deliver something to another city and when i asked why did you do it she said cos hes the teacher and hes busy. if you cant handle your job quit! how the hell does a teacher get so much power

Not only in China are the schools and the corporations corrupt.......  you can buy your grades in Canada and the USA too ........... and in government positions, and I know this first hand...... spent 35 years with the BC govt.....  you are generally promoted to your level of incompetence ....  i.e.  if you can't do your current job, promotion is easier for your boss to do, (get rid of you) than it is to fire you.... eventually you will get rid of yourself, so the bosses don't have to fight with the union at all.

p.s not me...I was doing my bosses job and my bosses bosses job, before I had had enough.

At home, (CANADA) I used to take in International students to attend the local university, my sister still does............  sometimes the students show up, already armed with a plan for how to get through university without ever actually attending....sometimes it takes them a while to learn to cheat  ......  and every once in a blue moon, you get an honest hard working, dedicated student.

Chinese teachers will often require a student to pay money to attend an "extra" class.  In this class, the teacher will teach lessons that they should have been teaching as part of the "normal" class. If the parents dont buy this class, the student doesn't graduate.   China is corrupt to the core.   The social corruption in this country is mind boggling.    To continue on this route is to further the country's intellectual stagnation and ensure their place as a third world nation of factory workers.   China needs to wake up.
