Q: Are chopsticks evidence of an advanced culture in China?

The sheer simplicity and portability of chopsticks is ingenious. All the west could come up with is knives, forks, spoons and other cumbersome devices.

It's much safer I'll tell you that Traveler. When I went to school back home in N.C. they had some troubled kids growing up. During lunchtime you could bring your own lunch or eat the lunch they offered at the school. So you know we used forks, knives and spoons. THose utensils are good but chopsticks are safer. Two kids got into a fight the taller one picked the shorter one up slammed him on the table, and while the shorter one was on the table he grabbed a fork and stabbed the taller one in the arm.

And you are right about that. Chopsticks are lighter than the conventional knives, forks and spoons. However, you can't drink soup without a spoon unless you drink it by lifting the bowl and drinking it from there. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. I just feel safer around chopsticks after that fight!

Mr_spoon: Thankfully, at least one person understands sarcasm here. It is sad, but amusing, that many don't.

It is awesome to see the responses of some people on this forum, and how much Chineseness has been absorbed by them.

I don't think so. Only because Chinese people like eating things with bones.

Don't feed the trolls ... with chopsticks. Use a fork and knife.

Two sticks?  I'm pretty sure cavemen had more advanced technology.

ambivalentmace:

perhaps its a sign of laziness, the parasite riding the host for technology and then just before death let him free for the ride again later in the next century after he has recovered and prospered a little.
