Pretty much every time I've taken advantage of a mixed drink special at a bar, I've gotten a horrible horrible headache from it the next day, even without drinking too much. Do cheap drink specials imply that whatever they are serving is fake? Are you ever being served real alcohol here when a mixed drink is 20-30 kuai?

The bars that offer 20 kuai mixed drinks are probably fake. However, I think the happy hours at more renowned bars are fantastic. I think paying 50-70 kuai for a cocktail is too much so I'm glad that I get to taste good drinks for half the price during happy hours. My fav summer drink so far: passion fruit mojito.
I agree with coffaholic. Happy hour specials at higher-end bars in Beijing (not dive bars in WDK or SLT) are probably okay, especially if the drinks are ungodly expensive normally.
Never drink anything in a club though.
