If you register your children as foreign nationals (that is, you obtain citizenship from your home country for your children) then go forth and multiply. If you register the children as a Chinese citizen, only one (unless you want to pay the 30K 'fine' for multiple children).
Thakkudu:
30k fine?.. i guess the fine depends on parents monthly income.. not fixed amount..
stan118:
its not 30k at all, depends how much you earn, the more you earn the more you pay, and if you dont earn that much you will be stuck with 1
this sounds odd. i never met a chinese girl that didn't know that foreigner-chinese couples are excluded from the 1 child policy. (same as minorities)
Well, I guess, that if it is a girl rather than a woman (physically rather than potentially mentally), then you would indeed be limited to 1 child before you were hauled off to jail and turned into a KTV shower boy.)
In honesty, as long as you register your little buggers with your homeland embassy, then you can have as many little carpet rats as you wish. One of my friends here just had his wife pop out his 9th evil progeny.
If your babies are born here, its the same rules, and Chinese Nationality of said children cant be renounced if you live here, just been through it all 3 months ago,1 parent Chinese =Chinese national if born here, child will be given one way exit visa if you wish too change nationship

Paul, I have no idea from where you got the information, but it does not sound right to me. i am American, my ex was or is Chinese. My daughter was born and registered at the US Consulate, and does have a US passport. Yet, as far as Chinese authorities, she is a Chinese national until she becomes of legal age and chooses a nationality. According to existing laws, in USA dual nationalities are legal, in China no. If she chooses USA, and chinese authorities find out, she will need a visa to live here.

You can register or even get Passports for your children if they accept dual nationality,in the country of your birth for your child. But having a child in China counts as the first child, and if you were to have a second child born in China with one parent Chinese, you are subject to the same laws,if you had 2 children born outside of China before you had you first child in China they wouldnt count
Yikes!
My Japanese friend back in Guilin is in trouble then! his wife is Chinese and they have three kids born here, never paid said fine....
2nd baby coming, same situation. The hospital required us to get a "Birth permit" (not really sure if it is the right translation) and told them I intend to get my child my country passport/identity. Still I was told by the hospital that since the mother is chinese, they are mandated to report to the local government bureau (not sure what it is, i think in-charge of family planning).
I believe then the bureau normally will report back to the hometown (of the hukou), and will penalized the couple for not following the one-child policy. Some say we will still get penalize since the mother is chinese. Some say just dont report it in the hometown.
I really dont know...haha....China dont really make a clear cut explaination or official ruling on this one. I think it is crazy to penalize me since I am getting my child my home country citizen.
Will see how it goes. Our consulate/embassy just need proof of birth so i can apply passport.
