I'm about to return to the mainland but from what I've heard there are five or six teachers leaving my school because of the new law with regard to having a degree from your own country, etc...
For the other teachers out there, what does it look like at your school? Many people forced to leave?
I don't know. Most I know about leave either because of a family or just plainly because your ability to build up your life is severely capped in China simply because you are a foreigner.
I left about 9 months ago, but my wife is still in China due to her work. We are planning to move her over here in a year or so. I love China for small visits but living there is just wear and tear on your mental health. I believe many are leaving.
Looks like everyone has left this site, let alone China...

For what I've seen and read over the last few years ot is the circle of life.
there is a rotation period about this time of year through to about September.
I think you will find many different reasons for the movement, from getting out before winter , end of contract, young children starting school
just to name a few .As for rule changes people will adapt and move forward
Yep. Teachers without the prerequisites for working in China legally are leaving. There is a demand for qualified teachers right now. My school is looking to hire two teachers but we haven't had any applicants. The pay and conditions are good but only two applicants so far - both men over 65.

Which city are you in? Iv heard from a few people that their schools are looking for teachers but finding it difficult in don't suitable candidates.

They "SAY" they are leaving. BUTTTTTT, they are only going to Hainan to get new visa's to stick around. Why Hainan, not sure. Seems thats the place that visa services offer online for lnew visa's and other stuff.
Definitely yes and I can tell you first hand that employers start feeling the pain. Many schools now offer much higher salaries for Foreign teachers with virtually the same requirements (Native speaker, degree, etc...), especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
You can't blame people for leaving, so much cheating, lying and bullying in China. The supply of numb FOB graduates from the West couldn't last forever and news are spreading about all the abuses that Foreign teachers have to put up with in China.
So now you get employers whose entire business is based on having a Foreign face around, they are desperate for Foreigners more than ever before and they do realize that the best way to attract them is to offer more money.
Most offers that I receive today start at 15-18k and go all the way up to 30-35k for your regular ESL teacher, unimaginable a few years ago because the supply of Foreigners seemed endless, today they see the end and realize that the time has come to get serious about it.
I know some non natives without degrees from english speaking countries cant get z visa any more so i know many non natives are leaving. And some natives with fake degrees are leaving. I also got better offers this year because of the visa rule changes. I cant complain about it. I would like to know if you know where i can notarize my diploma for the next year?
gunnerdj:
Has to be done in your own country as far as I know. At least, for me, that's where I had to get it done.
First went to the Department of Higher Education to get my degree certified, then to the Department of International Relations for another stamp of certification and finally to the Chinese embassy.
Quite a process but it's the only way.

@ Gunnerdj.
Was your degree awarded in your home country?
Seens that Latinodancers degree was awarded in a native English speaking country and is a non-native. So should the degree be notarized in the issuing country?
gunnerdj:
Yes I got my degree in my 'home country'.
For degrees awarded outside your own country, I wouldn't know what procedure to follow.
I work 14 40 min classes, 50 office hours a week!, all for 13k.
I'm American, with a BA, 10 years of experience, and a CELTA.
I think I'm underpaid...
icnif77:
I'd call SAFEA for 50 office hours per week , buTT... I am Non..
This question makes me feel uncomfortable. Maybe it should be deleted?
icnif77:
It got AoD! Reply above you:
'Before ESL teachers are easy to find. Most schools before hire only Caucasians even without a degree. But things has changed. With the new visa laws, the supply of foreigner teachers have decline. Foreigner with out degree will have a hard time finding a teaching job. Search for qualified teachers is getting harder.'
You know, 'I am US Certified License s-tea-chair-s....!'
For sub-'subjects' as English Grammar&Tenses, too! I should know, how to read&write Englo.
There must be Non-English-Native chap to pick an awards here-oo.
I got new FEC (and RP extension) last week in Guizhou with computer files attached to my CV as usual.
I have original BA diplama with me in China, and School's rep. made photocopy, before she applied for the new FEC.
BA isn't authenticated!
where I am it is not required for extensions just a new FEC. Regarding how to get it authenticated, I just had mine done I used a company in the USA to do mine. $180. I am hitting my 5th year so I will need to leave and come back. Unsure of what that will bring.
That new law came and went pretty fast after the protest. So I feel you'll see teachers stay and a few teachers leave. I picture more staying and new ones coming in rather than teachers leaving.
@brejnev - can you tell the name of the USA company?
Many teachers are leaving China for sure. Some schools don't want to take the risk of hiring illegal teachers. If you are the principal who is enjoying your life , you won't risk to lose your job because of hiring illegal teachers . This year is the best year in China .
Even African migrants are leaving China from Guangzhou . Who wants to stay in China illegally ?
icnif77:
So, who are you going to report? Some must stay, I'd say for the sake of your higher salary!
answer to icnif77 who I am going to report ...you can read the last paragraph to see where you can report illegal teachers.
The state administration of foreign experts' affairs is set to release a set of guidelines designed to ensure that unqualified foreigners are not employed in schools and educational establishments. The old criteria no longer applies. China is now demanding better qualified, more competent English teachers, and by the end of the month the nation's top regulator of expat employment is expected to further raise the bar by implementing a tough application policy.
"Expats who want a job as an English teacher will have to obtain a teaching certificate in China, just as Chinese teachers do," said Qiu Xusheng, a senior official with the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
The new policy has been designed to meet the ever-rising demand for high-quality foreign experts, Qiu said. Although he declined to reveal further details of the upcoming regulations, he said regulators at the provincial and municipal levels will be required to fully implement the new policy.
"Once we confirm that people have been hired illegally, we will report the facts to the relevant administrative departments, such as the public security department," he added. So this means there's going to be training and a test in the near future?

make another account please, icniff77 is right, after the question you posted asking advise in how to report fellow teachers..you will never get any respect on this forum, and rightfully so. Keep walking.
thelatinodancer:
Are you an authority to decide for that ? I don't need anything from you . For you are just an idiot in the virtual world. Who cares what you think or what you say ? I will report illegal workers. You like it or not. By the way it is not my question. I just answer the question.
thelatinodancer:
Let me guess. Miguel is a non native who will be the next illegal teacher in China . He is frustrated because some people don't give a .... about him. Now he is talking about respect. Who gives a respect to illegal teachers ?
miguel82:
You got one right buddy, im non native english speaker, but i aint a teacher and never been, im a Marketing Manager. I just wondered which kind of loser was even consider to report any foreigner instead minding his own business, the lamest kind i guess.
thelatinodancer:
If some illegal workers decrease the average salary than I should report it. They don't obey the Chinese rules .
