Q: Are over-the-counter anti-depressants available in China?
10 years 43 weeks ago in Health & Safety - China
Yes, they are. Both made in China, or from abroad. But I am told you need a doctor's prescription to buy them, and not all drugstores carry reputable ones from abroad. If found, they charge around 30 Rmb per pill
Why not go for the TCM equivalent.? Don't know what that would be, but you could try boiling some random vegetables.
Scandinavian:
Don't go buy antidepressant without talking to a doctor. If you are feeling depressed, see a shrink. The pills just numbs you so you don't feel the depression but you will also not feel true joy.
Scandinavian:
As a male, I can only see two ways of using bananas for getting into a better mood.
1. You can eat them, they contain tryptophan which is natures own happy-drug
2. You can throw the peel on the street, wait for someone to come and slide in it
Be careful about who you talk to: certainly not local work colleagues or friends. Mental illness has a stigma in China. Scandinavian is actually right about eating banana's. A friend of mine at home prefers the dietary and regular exercise solution to the medical one. it is slower in working, but less damaging to the body in the long term. If possible, have an ex-pat friend who can help.
