As I am preparing to leave Guangzhou and China I am wondering if there are any places in or around Guangzhou that might accept unwanted clothes. The same might go for other unwanted stuff such as notepads, books (possibly) and accessories. Just don't want to throw these things away really.
Try finding a church, some of them redistribute used stuff (and some probably don't always do so only to the needy)
Alternatively, throw it in the dumpster, someone will take it. If I throw away something that I find to be still functional, I will always put it next to one of the outdoors trashcans, maybe in a plastic bag depending on what it is and weather, and without fail, it will be gone 30-60 mins later. For me it is just as much about things not being wasted than helping. E.g. the woman cleaning our building is using a pair of my wifes old sunglasses as they were placed (for her) by a trashcan inside the building, where not a lot of people pass except the 3 neighbors.

I also seperate my garbage into trash and usuable items and place them beside the bin. Its always used. I figure an old grandma thats a cleaner for 1000 a month who can use the stuff for her family is just as in need as anyone who would be receiving it from a charity if they got it at all. Also, old tins in the pantry your never gonna use, gift cards or coupons that will expire without use all are appreciated i bet.

In my MILs hood there is an old woman, she never worked, her husband did, but the plan was they should live of his retirement, when he died the money stopped. She owns the apartment, but has nothing else. She is trawling the trash every day, down to kitchen garbage. It's really sad, but she certainly fits my classification of "needy" despite having a rather large apartment. She always smiles, but I've even seen her carry water from a shared tap the community staff use to water green things.

Both sound like good ideas in general. For my area (Tianhe coach station) it would probably be easiest to just leave it in the dumpster aka anywhere outside of my apartment. Can't think of any churches or charities around where I live unfortunately.

@mike. It is probably pretty nice for her to have a place to live, maybe she doesn't have the needed skills to figure out that she could rent the rest of her life for the money from selling her place (assuming she doesn't live too far over 100.
