many Chinese people who ask for English lessons, offer free Chinese lessons in return. Just wait to be asked!

Find a Uni student, there are plenty that will be willing to give free Chinese lessons in exchange for English lessons.

If you're single, I recommend finding a Chinese partner. You can teach each other your languages.

Hulk:

If not single, then chances are you're already with a Chinese partner! Teach each other.

If not, get some books... not free, but not as expensive as lessons, either.

Post an ad on the Beijinger, and find a Chinese language partner. The deals that get worked out usually involve meeting in a coffee shop once/twice a week for two hours--one hour in Chinese, and the other in English. The ones I paired up with in Beijing were all wonderful. Other than that--Beijing is an expensive city. Unless your employer offers you lessons, you aren't going to find free formal classes taught by free teachers who cater to Westerners for the joy of it lying around.

Everything in China is free as long as you remember to give a "gift".

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
