Comfort and safety seem to be ignored. The driver merelly yells at passengers to move back.

There's no limit to how many people you can stuff on a scooter either.
thedude:
So far the most I have seen is 5...mother, father on the front and back...3 kids in the middle. I am always looking for the elusive number 6 with camera ready!
DaBen:
I can't recall seeing more than 3 adults and 2 kids.... but yeah I'm sure number six is out there.
I think there are legal limits maybe, but generally ignored.
HaHa at motor bikes...whats the most people you have seen on a motorbike in China? I saw 10 once! I flipped out...4 ADULTS including driver, and 6 kids in arms! Thats why the Chinese acrobats rule...they grew up on motor bikes!
I was on a bus once...near the holiday and it was packed. Some Chinese lady had to even sit next to me (and she was not happy about it). They oversold it...and broke out little stools so the 'Overflow" could sit in the aisles!
I had to laugh and thought..geez what is going to happen when a tractor trailer hits us? At least I got the seat and this fat unhappy chinese lady as safety bumpers!
No limit. Limits are for wimps. Here, the "sardine method" is enforced. "Pack 'em, stack 'em, and smack 'em!"
I think the limit is 64 kids in a 15 person mini van. After that, people tend to get a tad upset.
Edit: Actually it was a 9 person van that had the seats torn out and benches put in so they could pack more kids in.
but if i say the overloading of the van has to do with a disregard for human life that would be racist??
Not racist at all in my opinion. A racist remark is when someone makes sweeping generalizations or uses derogatory words to describe a race of people.
For example, saying that the accident had to do with a disregard for human life, is not racist.
But, saying something like: the accident shows that Chinese people have a disregard for human life, is racist.
As a side note, each family member was awarded 436,000 RMB for this incident. (About 50,000RMB more than it costs to buy an American style school bus.) ChinaSmack has a great article about it here: http://www.chinasmack.com/2011/stories/guiyang-american-school-buses-for-teachers-not-students.html
