Q: Are you allowed to launch fireworks during festivals?

New Years Day 2013 is coming up and I want to celebrate it with a nice gathering in Guangzhou. I know this is last minute but is it possible to shoot fireworks in Guangzhou and where is a good place.

Another question, of course, is where can you buy fireworks?

I was there last year, and believe me, there is no shortage of fireworks........  don't know if you can get them and set them off.

Think I do remember seeing them for sale.

I bought fireworks, the fuse was too short. I'm lucky I still have a face. My GF said I could not use them.

There even is or was a huge fireworks market in Guangzhou itself, not too far from the Tian He Coach Terminal.  That being said, this year, at least officially, the Guangzhou City Fathers have embarked upon a campaign of no fireworks during Spring Festival, and I don't doubt for one minute that that will change anything.  If the local police are vigilant, you may be fined -- if it is business as usual, well then.

I always bought fireworks on the street corner. Don't forget to bargain a little too. Actually, when the time comes, you won't have to look very hard...wink  fireworks will find you.

Last year for New Years I saw zero fireworks for sale, and at midnight there was nothing on the sky. That is of course a local "problem" For Chinese New Year it is a different story.

Allowed to? I thought it was compulsory! angry

Honestly, in Nanning in Spring Festival, every street has hundreds of firework sellers and they are set off on almost every street corner with absolutely zero restrictions. Apparently about 3 years ago they tried to ban it but 5 million locals effectively said "f*&k you" and ignored the authorities so that 'instruction' quietly died.

Be warned though, as stated above, the fuses (especially on the ubiquitious firecrackers) are very short, light and run, or at least get your head out of the firing line.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
