Saw this on Chinese TV last night... Somehow the bad guys send you text messages from 10086 (China Unicom Customer Service). When you download the "enhanced reception update" or "critical update" (rough translation) - spyware is downloaded into your computer and within 72 hours your phone's contents are searched and private data automatically sent to the bad guys. Even China Unicom rep said their is no way to tell their real text from the scam text and they are supposedly "working on it". So ignore those 10086 messages for the next week or two
Wow! We have so much to be scared of here!
Are there any websites which can help us?
No, impossible that!
The phone number has 8 & 6 in it so everything will run smoothly and great fortunes will be on its way.
I solved the problem by having a phone too outdated to run spywares. Or store personal data. Or having updates. Nokia brick, I love you. In a century or two, they will make pyramids out of those.
Why was this guy downvoted for trying to warn people about a scam....unless the bad guy is an evil foreign devil! I must tell the Chinese media.
tbh66:
I don't know, but only guessing, he stated china Unicom. 10086 is china mobile
I recall using 10086 for checking my phone internet, but otherwise I ignore things like links and update messages. kan bu dong.
I think 10086 is China Mobile not China Unicom. Also all the 10086 texts on my phone are about how many minutes and how much data I have left on my bill. Just do not download anything stupid. Critical updates should come from your phone operating system or manufacturer not your phone carrier.
Who the hell would download anything from a text message.
I always ignore the 10086 texts anyway. Even the official ones are just trying to get you to sign up for crap.
