Going home soon so time to fill the suitcases with stuff for Christmas and birthdays and other assorted its and pieces.
But im not allowed to go because if the shopkeeper sees me the price will be higher.
so i go out a day or so before and take photos of what I want and then the velvet mafia go out and buy it at their price .
is this the same for you guys?
Edit ...how about if you are single ?how to get around this hurdle?(shopping not being single)
shopping in physical stores tends to be irrelevant due to the availability of the same stuff online but at cheaper prices. Usually its good to go window shopping to get an idea of an original price and also to see if you like the particular item. Later you go home and put in an order on the web. Bam you've helped erode their relevance by choosing the more competitively priced item online. If you wanna get on their nerves just pull up the prices on your smart phone and use that to barter with them. . . Don't think for a minute that anything here is a rarity that cannot be found elsewhere. Even unique gift type items are all mass produced.. It's the 21st century and its China.
We have the same routine. The wife is a tiger when bartering and a glimpse of me ruins it.
I am shopping in China only at the places with price displayed as in Supers or similar.
I am often on the farmers markets, where I must pay attention only to the scale. Not the weight that much, but changing of the price, after the last Chinese customer purchased mango, and I have bananas...... to scale.
Sometimes, they just want to hit my bananas with mango's price.....I know, they forget to change the price, 'cause of the rush.
I've learn bartering, 'cause LTC (-not panel, buTT....Long Time in China).
me: 'Can I have a glass of water, pls?'
China: 'Here you go...'
me: 'Thx! How much do I owe you?'
China: 'Nothing. It's free....'
me: 'Where's the napkin .... then?'

same for us, but some places are OK, e.g. it seems I can get out of Carre Four with a bag of beers without being screwed over, the farmers market not so much luck, but often the old women there will actually be fair.
