Q: Are you insulated or just plain evil?
Something that I’ve been thinking about for a little while…there are people asking questions regarding employment and marriage who are not in the (legal/financial) position to do either.
Yet, there are those members who I imagine sitting in their high-backed imported leather chairs, cognac (imported) in one hand, Cohiba (also imported) lit with a Franklin in the other, dictating their responses to these questions to one of their five Filipina maids (one for massage, one to top up the cognac and trim the ash from the Cohiba, one to read the latest posts, the fourth to type the response and the fifth to operate the remote for their 100” plasma).
Example: “i be a non-native hoo wants to be Englisch of teacher. Wut shood do i?”
Answer: “I say old chap, do come posthaste and partake of what this fine country and culture has on offer. Do not be swayed by those knaves who speak ill of fine Cathay.”
Example two: “I’ve known a girl for 20 minutes and I wanna get married but I’m poor, she’s poor and I don’t even know if she like Applebees. Please advice.”
Answer: “Old bean, do always look on the sunny side of Wall Street and go for it! Do not worry about the trivialities of impetuous decisions as all is fair in love, or as the French call it, ‘Amour’, and war – or “guerre” as the romantic French are wont to call surrender.
Or, are you just plain evil and would like to screw-over someone by giving them facetious advice?
I forgot to mention that a lot of these people are economic refugees...they carry a great debt load and borrow further from friends and family to come here. To encourage someone to enter the lion's den is just plain irresponsible (if not criminal).
My three actual questions:
- 1. Do you ever consider the repercussions of your advice?
- 2. Are you personally willing to take the legal and or financial responsibility for the off-the-cuff advice that you give?
- 3. Did you ever learn critical thinking when studying for your “Beyoncé Degree” from Rutgers (it exists, really!) or whichever school that has the word “Community” in its name?
Just so you know, I’m wearing flame-retardant Armani boxers so flame away!
The way is see it is that
1) people ask advice online - they ask total strangers
2) many people give reasonable advice based on experience (hence it is different)
3) visa related advice is fact based and those looking for approval for illegalities are at best hopelessly naive and at worst trolls. (@ ScotsAlan, and yes, changing your question and then becoming offensive is childish)
China has made me more suspicious about being baited on legal matters, similar to the 'do you like China' question.
4) no-one is forcing you to take the advice and getting upset or angry is just laughable
5) some people are so lazy asking things it would have been quicker researching online themselves and they deserve what they get.
6) it is a forum, not your granny listening to you to make you feel better about your life decisions.
7) if you chose (or not) to take the advice of posters, grow a pair and take responsibility for the outcome.
there is a certain amount of banter and give and take on a forum, by and large people are reasonable, but trolls are fair game.

1. Yes, absolutely. If someone asks for advice and seems even semi genuine, I'll answer as honestly as I can. Of course if it's an obvious troll I might flame them a bit but usually I just ignore them.
2. No. If someone wants that guarantee go to a lawyer. Any advice I - or probably anyone here - gives is just based on experience and hopefully good intentions. Hell, it's the internet.
3. Yes. But I don't really put a lot of faith in what people have supposedly learned because I've met too many 'well educated' idiots here.
Could you give an example of someone giving an answer that could result in legal action?
Sometimes I want to say "Yeah, just get a tourist visa and come work here". But we cant.
I admit I can get a bit stroppy if I have cracked open a tin, but I cant say I have seen any realy bad advice given. The answers may not all be the same, but that reflects on peoples different experiencies.
By the way.... I have an Armani suit.... cost me 620RMB. But its real. the same as the 2RMB havana cigar I am smoking at the moment

Weel (trying my Sco'ish accent) telling people who are unqualified/under-educated to just show up and hit the boonies is technically promoting an illegal action, recommending agents that falsify documents, suggesting that people lie to obtain the FRP...basically anything that could result in the perpetrator being arrested and/or detained and/or deported.

Also, as happened to me yesterday, someone asked a question about working on a Business visa. My natural reaction was to do the "aloof" lecture on needing a Z visa. The OP called called us "c***ts", and in the meantime edited his question, so my answer appeared to be way off on the wrong tangent.
There are always legal aspects to posting online. People in the west are being arrested for what they post now. It has been happening here for years. But it's not as if discussions here are subject to such things as prejudice, as they are in the west if gossiping about some local crime.
The Chinese legal system is really easy. The single law... don't upset the Party.
If someone were to come on here and post photos and details of someone who, for example, is under a witness protection program... wow... that's a different level all together.
I try to post with 2 rules in mind.... remember where you are... and dont post a wrong answer... wrong to the best of my knowledge that is.
Most answers can be found on the internet anyway

Sino, I'm not exactly sure which posts you're referring to but the problem you mention is common in any anonymous internet forum - advice should be taken with a grain of salt until further research is performed. People are not personally or legally accountable for any advice given here and posters have to be aware of that. In my opinion, it is irresponsible to put to much stock in what someone says on this or any other forum. Is giving false information deliberately screwed up? Yea, if it's an important factual question then sure. But a lot of the times people are just posting opinions that they're entitled to. So to answer yoru questions:
1. Sure, if it's a serious question and I give a serious answer I'm aware that I could be influencing someone and take that responsibility to my fellow humans seriously.
2. Absolutely not - there are no legally binding agreements on anonymous internet forums

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
I never think of the results of my answers and I never read the questions in full!!!!
Stupid questions deserve stupid answers.
You know how advice is. You only want it if it agrees with what you wanted to do anyway.
People who act upon advice they have received on the internet should do so with caution. Do you think their should be a disclaimer on this website? "Warning. Contents may have shit advice. May contain nuts."
Some people only learn by making horrendous and irreversible mistakes. A person once said that advice is pointless because the wise don't need it and the foolish don't pay heed to it.
If you want to come here and and work illegally on a tourist visa, marry a Vietnamese hooker and start an underground casino then I think that's a fantastic idea.
Honestly I don't care, if someone is dumb enough to chase a girl here after dating for a short time, looking to marry her as if she's the only girl in the world. And you just finished your studies but you don't know anything. What American doesn't know that it is difficult to get into the America (legally) but damn near impossible to make immigrants leave.
Also, I don't have parents to consult? Professors? (You claim to have just finished University) I turned down 35k yearly because I'm poor and in love to work for low pay in China. (Without experience,you're not gonna get a high salary) And I'm gonna swallow the BS notion that her family is poor (poor Chinese families send their kids to study in the US) and that I must take care of her ...

I would refer back to the poster who said stupid questions deserve stupid answers.
But I really don't care universities these days are graduating more and more dummies. Schools these days are simply diploma mills.
This is why I give advice on only two topics...what to do in Harbin, and why Chinese society is evil. I don't want to give some poor boob bad advice and ruin his life.
