Coronavirus: University of Queensland hoping for human trials for vaccine by mid-year

A prominent Chinese official has promoted a conspiracy theory that the United States military could have brought the novel coronavirus to China -- and it did not originate in the city of Wuhan, as thought.

Posting to his more than 300,000 followers on Twitter, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian republished a video of Robert Redfield, the director for the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, addressing a US Congressional committee on March 11.

In the clip, Redfield said some influenza deaths in the US were later identified as cases of Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Redfield didn't say when those people had died or over what time period, but Zhao pointed to his remarks in support of a growing conspiracy theory that the coronavirus did not originate in Hubei province in central China. He did not offer any further evidence for the claim.

"CDC was caught on the spot. When did patient zero begin in US? How many people are infected? What are the names of the hospitals? It might be US army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan. Be transparent! Make public your data! US owe us an explanation!" the Foreign Ministry official said.

Hundreds of athletes from the US military were in Wuhan for the Military World Games in October 2019.

The video of Redfield was also published to Twitter by other state media outlets, including national broadcaster CCTV and the popular Global Times tabloid.

On Friday, Zhao's fellow Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said there were "varied opinions" on the origin of the virus in the international community.

"China always considers this a scientific question, which should be addressed in a scientific and professional manner," he said, avoiding questions on whether Zhao's tweet represented the Chinese government's official position.

Origin theories

Parts of Chinese social media, and even the country's government, appear to have launched a concerted campaign to question the origin of the novel coronavirus, which has infected more than 125,000 people globally.

The first reported cases of the virus were in Wuhan, and since then the city has had more infections and deaths than anywhere in the world.

Speaking in his official capacity at a press conference in Beijing on March 4, Zhao told reporters that "no conclusion has been reached yet on the origin of the virus" -- and Chinese scientists were still tracing where it came from.

On February 27, renowned Chinese infectious disease expert Zhong Nanshan also questioned where the coronavirus had come from.

"The infection was first spotted in China but the virus may not have originated in China," Zhong said at a press conference.

On Thursday, Hua Chunying, Zhao's boss who heads the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Department of Information, tweeted a link to Redfield's testimony, saying it was "absolutely wrong and inappropriate to call this the Chinese coronavirus."

China's ambassador to South Africa, Lin Songtian, took to Twitter on March 8 to say that although the first epidemic was recorded in China, it didn't mean the virus "originated from China."

However, Zhao's colleague Geng cautioned Thursday that the origin of the virus could only be determined "by science."

"We don't hope to see anyone making an issue out of this to stigmatise other countries," he said. "With COVID-19 developing into a pandemic, the world should come together to fight it instead of levelling accusations and attacks against each other, which is not constructive at all."

The streets of Wuhan are empty following the coronavirus outbreak. (AP)

Twitter diplomacy

Zhao's comments are another example of Chinese government figures using Twitter to defend China against criticism -- despite the platform being banned in the country, along with Facebook, Instagram and a number of other prominent Western social media sites.

Prior to 2019, few Chinese officials had verified Twitter accounts. But since then, ambassadors, mission heads and Chinese foreign ministry spokespeople across the world have joined Twitter.

In January, Chinese ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming weighed in on the UK's decision on whether or not to ban telecommunications giant Huawei from its 5G networks on Twitter.

Flights, trains and public transport including buses, subway and ferry services remain closed following the Coronavirus outbreak. (Getty)

Cui Tiankai, the Chinese ambassador to the US, took to Twitter in December to deny accusations of human rights abuses against Muslim-majority Uyghurs in Xinjiang. "Ultimately, facts will always prevail over lies," he tweeted.

Zhao was promoted in mid 2019 after building a reputation for himself on Twitter as a fierce advocate for Chinese interests -- arguing with western politicians and blocking Beijing's critics -- during his time as a senior diplomat at the Chinese embassy in Pakistan.

Too hot to Handel: Meet top female pianist putting the sexy into classical music

With a toss of the hair and a playful lip bite, Khatia Buniatishvili makes Modest Mussorgsky sound anything but bashful – and the otherwise stuffy world of classical music just can’t get enough.

The long-dead composers she plays might have written some jazzier rhythms if they knew they’d be brought to life by a woman whose whole body sways and bounces with every arpeggio. The tension builds as the audience is left wondering whether her low-cut dress can keep her sufficiently covered as she pounds the keys harder and harder towards the climax, before the joyous burst of deafening applause.

Best thing is, Buniatishvili has the chops for Chopin. A Georgian-born former child prodigy who speaks five languages and now lives in France, she is considered one of a handful of top pianists in the world.

Too hot to Handel: Meet top female pianist putting the sexy into classical music

‘La Beyoncé du piano’, as she is sometimes called in her adopted homeland, she is a flawless technician whose manicured fingers move with jaw-dropping speed and precision.

Turn off the lights, put on a blindfold, and play one of her recordings with the world’s top orchestras, and that same vivacity, passion and sorrow come through every note.

As for the artist herself, she doesn’t mind being discussed for her revealing wardrobe – she says her sense of style doesn’t take away from her talent, but adds to it.

“There are different manners of expressing ourselves. The more you are yourself, the more you are somehow original to others,” she says.

Insight: Corona Virus Was Produced In A Laboratory

By Press TV

A former American counter-terrorism specialist and military intelligence officer of the CIA has said that the “Coronavirus did not occur naturally through mutation but rather was produced in a laboratory, possibly as a biological warfare agent.”

Since the novel coronavirus outbreak began in China last December, it has infected more than 90,000 people globally and killed more than 3,000. The majority of cases and deaths remain in mainland China.

https://biblicisminstitute.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/corona-virus.jpg?... 150w, https://biblicisminstitute.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/corona-virus.jpg?... 300w" width="679" />

Novel coronavirus – aka COVID-19 – is a new respiratory disease first identified in Wuhan, China.

The death toll from the coronavirus in Iran, which has one of the highest numbers outside China, stood at 107, Health Ministry spokesman Kianush Jahanpur said Thursday.

“Several reports suggest that there are components of the virus that are related to HIV that could not have occurred naturally. If it is correct that the virus had either been developed or even produced to be weaponized it would further suggest that its escape from the Wuhan Institute of Virology Lab and into the animal and human population could have been accidental. Technicians who work in such environments are aware that ‘leaks’ from laboratories occur frequently,” Philip Giraldi wrote in an article published by the Strategic Culture Foundation on Thursday.

“There is, of course and inevitably, another theory. There has been some speculation that as the Trump Administration has been constantly raising the issue of growing Chinese global competitiveness as a direct threat to American national security and economic dominance, it might be possible that Washington has created and unleashed the virus in a bid to bring Beijing’s growing economy and military might down a few notches. It is, to be sure, hard to believe that even the Trump White House would do something so reckless, but there are precedents for that type of behavior,” he said.

“In 2005-9 the American and Israeli governments secretly developed a computer virus called Stuxnet, which was intended to damage the control and operating systems of Iranian computers being used in that country’s nuclear research program. Admittedly Stuxnet was intended to damage computers, not to infect or kill human beings, but concerns that it would propagate and move to infect computers outside Iran proved to be accurate as it spread to thousands of PCs outside Iran, in countries as far flung as China, Germany, Kazakhstan and Indonesia,” he added.

“If one even considers it possible that the United States had a hand in creating the coronavirus at what remains of its once extensive biological weapons research center in Ft Detrick Maryland, it is very likely that Israel was a partner in the project. Helping to develop the virus would also explain how Israeli scientists have been able to claim success at creating a vaccine so quickly, possibly because the virus and a treatment for it were developed simultaneously,” he noted.

Israeli scientists have claimed to be close to developing a vaccine for coronavirus that could be available in about 90 days, saying they have developed an effective vaccine against avian coronavirus Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV), which is to be adapted soon and create a human vaccine against COVID-19.

There was an expert interviewed on the Joe Rogan podcast last week and he was asked specifically if this could have been engineered in a lab for use as a bio weapon.

He says no, it jumped naturally from animals. I find him to be quite convincing.

icnif77:

Update (1320ET): the unceasing stream of grim case reports out of Italy continued on Sunday when the country's Civil Protection Service reported 3,590 new cases - the largest one-day increase (more than 20%) since the outbreak really took hold late last month - and 368 new deaths, another massive jump, raising the case total in the country to 24,747 and bringing the total deaths to 1,809 as of the end of Saturday, Italian newswire ANSA reports.

Italy remains the worst-hit country in Europe, and the worst-hit outside mainland China.

Another 2,335 have recovered from the virus since contracting it, 369 more than yesterday.

As China sends a medical team and supplies, complemented by a massive donation by Alibaba founder Jack Ma, who is donating more than a million face masks and many Covid-19 test kits to the country, The situation in the north continues to aggressively deteriorate. The governor of Lombardy accused Rome of failing to comprehend the seriousness of the situation as the national lockdown continues.

"The situation is objectively very serious - the governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana said in an morning in an interview with Repubblica - "the virus is underhand, disappears and reappears and I think there is a very wrong perception in Rome and beyond. The situation is objectively very serious."

In the Lombardy region alone, 4,898 patients have been hospitalized due to severe symptoms, 600+ more new patients than a day earlier.

Over in Europe, the Netherlands reported a nearly 200-case jump on Sunday, bringing its case total up 176 to 1,135. Portugal, whose President is still in self-quarantine, saw confirmed cases climb to 245 from 169. Norway saw cases climb to 1077 from 907. In response, the country said it would close schools for two weeks, becoming the latest developed nation to step up its virus containment efforts. The country's PM also announced that restaurants and nightlife would be shuttered.

After Israel banned gatherings over 10 and closed its borders, its central bank on Sunday launched a QE program to buy government bonds.

Japan, which has largely faded from the headlines this week, confirmed a total of 31 new cases bringing its total to 1,513. Iran confirmed another 1,209 cases on Sunday, bringing its total to 13,938. Another 113 people died, bringing the death toll to 724, according to Anadolou.

During an interview with CNN Sunday morning, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the NIH infectious disease specialist who is helping to direct the federal response, said that yes, of course it's possible that "thousands could die" from the outbreak.

But the goal is for the government to make sure the response is successful, and that this doesn't happen. To help the government, Fauci said Americans should brace to "hunker down" even more.

"Where You Stop Is Where You Stay" – Domestic Travel Restrictions Are Being "Considered"

Is the United States on the verge of a complete and total “lockdown” like we have already seen in China, Italy and elsewhere?

As you will see below, the Trump administration has repeatedly brought up the possibility of “domestic travel restrictions”, and that means that this is something that is very seriously being considered.  The first step may be simply banning all non-essential domestic air travel, and that would be a major inconvenience for many Americans.  But beyond that, there is the possibility that we could see restrictions on all travel between states or even draconian restrictions on going out in public at all like we have already seen in China and Italy.  If we get to that point, where you are at that moment is where you will be staying, and I will be sharing more about this below.

The Trump administration is weighing “all options” to curb the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., including an outright halt to domestic air travel, a senior official said Sunday.

Such a drastic step hasn’t been taken since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and it would raise questions about U.S. airlines’ chances for survival without government support.

As a sensible average Joe which I think I am, I'm always against politicizing events.

And those conspiracy theories, too, even though they provide a little reading joy in my pasttime.

@philbravery In my humble opinion, Chinese seldom INITIATE a blatant attack at someone OPENLY.

I capitalized 'initiate' and 'openly'.

Why are a lot of people appalled now? Even many Chinese secretly saying, wow wow this is bit too much.

And a prominent doctor, Dr. Hong-Wen Zhang openly saying on the Internet, it's irresponsible to make such a statement, unless you have evidence.

So why? Here's my two cents:

The media / leadership in the U.S., Trump himself included, constantly made careless comments like:

Virus from China / Foreign virus / Virus made-in-China /

And even an air-head TV show host demanding an apology from China, on his program...(If you've seen the clip, his colleagues were smiling and lowering their heads like, oh no please...)

I think all these are so DUMB... Maybe they are half hearted when saying it, but it got into the public's heads, didn't it?

You can't make a diplomatic call to Trump administration for an apology as that'd make you look sensitive, inferior and over-reactive, doesn't it?

So I guess all the Chinese spokesperson was doing is eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth heh?

Once again, I thought all of this is dumb. It's politicians playing with the public's heads.

Sandnose:

Wow! You certainly drank the koolaid. I love hearing the blubbering irrational and illogical excuses that gush out when Chinese are caught out fair and square and desperately try to keep some face. It's like a clown car with a drunk driver, no brakes going down a slippery wet mountain road and there is a huge cream pie waiting at the bottom. Comedy gold.

"It’s hard to believe that we even have to post this," police in Newport, Oregon stated in an official Facebook message. "Do not call 9-1-1 just because you ran out of toilet paper. You will survive without our assistance."

With the figures coming out of Italy and other countries...Do you really think China has told us the truth about the number of cases is true?
The numbers China has told us are only the tip of the iceberg.
In years to come the truth will come out just as other atrocities have .

I doubt that China, or any country for that matter would even know their true numbers. There's no way to test everyone and there must be countless people around the world sitting at home with minor symptoms or none at all yet just waiting it out.

I would agree with Stiggs. It is hard, especially at the beginning, where cases were ignored/mistreated as other sickness. When the panic started, hospitals in Wuhan were jammed, cross infection must have taken place, and those who couldn't get a sick bed then died without diagnosis were naturally not a COVID-19 death. Quite a number of stories in Wuhan, it's sad. If you were talking about the initial cover-up, well here we're angry with it too. The social media is full of condemns and call for legal actions. But I think the numbers later on have become more accurate.

It’s absolutely horrific that so many scientists and researchers are taking part in what’s really clearly a disinformation campaign orchestrated ...

“Donald Trump is racist.” This charge from the left is neither new or interesting anymore; it’s followed the President around since his escalator ride in 2015. So when the mass-and-social media left rallied around this marquee to challenge the Administration’s insistence that COVID-10, which originated in Wuhan, China, was Chinese, most on the right just rolled their eyes.

I mean—what else is new? To the left, we’re all racist.

At Wednesday’s White House press conference, reporters demanded he defend the phrase “Chinese virus.” He provided an unambiguous answer: “It’s not racist. It comes from China,” said the President. “I have great love for all of the people in our country, but China tried to say at one point that it came from American soldiers. That can’t happen. That won’t happen. Not as long as I’m president. It comes from China.”

Nevertheless, American media elites seem deeply agitated by the phrase “Chinese virus.” “Why do you keep calling this the Chinese virus?” ABC News’ White House reporter Cecilia Vega asked President Trump. “There are reports of dozens of incidents of bias against Chinese Americans in this country. Your own aide, Secretary [Alex] Azar, says he does not use this term. He says ethnicity does not cause the virus. Why do you keep using this?”

“Because it comes from China,” the President replied. “I want to be accurate.”

To the Administration, the issue is clear: China must be held into account for the pandemic that’s currently destabilizing the global markets and causing innumerable people to die needless deaths, had they only been transparent about the outbreak and contained it.

But to the blue checkmark baizuo, this reality falls on deaf ears. With an intensity that extends beyond Trump Derangement Syndrome, social justice thought leaders continue to defend a line that exposes an unbroken and downright dangerous line of transmission from the Chinese Communist Party to Western media, both mass and social.

Coronavirus is not the only thing that comes from China—social justice talking points do too.  surprise

"Bloody Tuesday": In Unprecedented Move, China Expels All Foreign Journalists Working For NYT, WSJ, WaPo

In the latest escalation of tensions, China announced on Tuesday that it would expel all American journalists working for the New York Times, WSJ and the Washington Post. It also demanded that those outlets - as well as VOA and Time Magazine - provide the Chinese government with detailed information about their operations in the country, the NYT reports. These include "all written materials" including staff finances, operations and real estate information in China.

Experts described the move, which was retaliation for the Trump Administration limiting the numbers of Chinese citizens who can work for Chinese media agencies in the US.

Per the new measures, Beijing's media bureau has instructed American journalists "whose press credentials are due to expire before the end of 2020” to “notify the Department of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within four calendar days starting from today and hand back their press cards within ten calendar days."

The statement continued to specify that the expelled journalists "will not be allowed to continue working as journalists in the People’s Republic of China, including its Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions." China has kicked journalists out of the mainland before, but trying to bar them from HK or Macau is a first.

Of course Beijing is furious that President Trump keeps calling Covid-19 the "Chinese Virus" - but not because it's racist, because the CCP is trying to convince the Chinese people that the virus came from the US.

icnif77:

https://www.zerohedge.com/health/terrifying-new-research-warns-22-million-could-die-us-without-drastic-action

An alarming scientific report compiled by British researchers and shared with the Trump White House warns that, in the absence of drastic and coordinated government action, the novel coronavirus could kill as many as 2.2 million people in the United States alone.

The new research (pdf), led by epidemiologist Dr. Neil Ferguson and published Monday by the Imperial College of London, shows that merely acting to slow rather than completely stop the spread of COVID-19 would "still likely result in hundreds of thousands of deaths and health systems (most notably intensive care units) being overwhelmed many times over."

"For countries able to achieve it, this leaves suppression as the preferred policy option," the researchers wrote. "In the U.K. and U.S. context, suppression will minimally require a combination of social distancing of the entire population, home isolation of cases, and household quarantine of their family members. This may need to be supplemented by school and university closures."

Successful suppression of the virus could take a significant amount of time, the researchers noted — "potentially 18 months or more."

China Locked in Hybrid War with US

Fallout from Covid-19 outbreak puts Beijing and Washington on a collision course

Among the myriad, earth-shattering geopolitical effects of coronavirus, one is already graphically evident. China has re-positioned itself. For the first time since the start of Deng Xiaoping’s reforms in 1978, Beijing openly regards the US as a threat, as stated a month ago by Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Munich Security Conference during the peak of the fight against coronavirus.

Beijing is carefully, incrementally shaping the narrative that, from the beginning of the coronovirus attack, the leadership knew it was under a hybrid war attack. Xi’s terminology is a major clue. He said, on the record, that this was war. And, as a counter-attack, a “people’s war” had to be launched.

Moreover, he described the virus as a demon or devil. Xi is a Confucianist. Unlike some other ancient Chinese thinkers, Confucius was loath to discuss supernatural forces and judgment in the afterlife. However, in a Chinese cultural context, devil means “white devils” or “foreign devils”: guailo in Mandarin, gweilo in Cantonese. This was Xi delivering a powerful statement in code.

When Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, voiced in an incandescent tweet the possibility that “it might be US Army who brought the epidemic to Wuhan” – the first blast to this effect to come from a top official – Beijing was sending up a trial balloon signaliing that the gloves were finally off. Zhao Lijian made a direct connection with the Military Games in Wuhan in October 2019, which included a delegation of 300 US military.

He directly quoted US CDC director Robert Redfield who, when asked last week whether some deaths by coronavirus had been discovered posthumously in the US, replied that  “some cases have actually been diagnosed this way in the US today.”

Zhao’s explosive conclusion is that Covid-19 was already in effect in the US before being identified in Wuhan – due to the by now fully documented inability of US to test and verify differences compared with the flu.

Adding all that to the fact that coronavirus genome variations in Iran and Italy were sequenced and it was revealed they do not belong to the variety that infected Wuhan, Chinese media are now openly  asking questions and drawing a connection with the shutting down in August last year of the “unsafe” military bioweapon lab at Fort Detrick, the Military Games, and the Wuhan epidemic. Some of these questions had been asked – with no response – inside the US itself.

Extra questions linger about the opaque Event 201 in New York on October 18, 2019: a rehearsal for a worldwide pandemic caused by a deadly virus – which happened to be coronavirus. This magnificent coincidence happened one month before the outbreak in Wuhan.

Event 201 was sponsored by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the CIA, Bloomberg, John Hopkins Foundation and the UN.  The World Military Games opened in Wuhan on the exact same day.

Irrespective of its origin, which is still not conclusively established, as much as Trump tweets about the “Chinese virus,” Covid-19 already poses immensely serious questions about biopolitics (where’s Foucault when we need him?) and bio-terror.

The working hypothesis of coronavirus as a very powerful but not Armageddon-provoking bio-weapon unveils it as a perfect vehicle for widespread social control – on a global scale.

Cuba rises as a biotech power

Just as a fully masked Xi visiting the Wuhan frontline last week was a graphic demonstration to the whole planet that China, with immense sacrifice, is winning the “people‘s war” against Covid-19, Russia, in a Sun Tzu move on Riyadh whose end result was a much cheaper barrel of oil, helped for all practical purposes to kick-start the inevitable recovery of the Chinese economy. This is how a strategic partnership works.

The chessboard is changing at breakneck speed. Once Beijing identified coronavirus as a bio-weapon attack the “people’s war” was launched with the full force of the state. Methodically. On a “whatever it takes” basis. Now we are entering a new stage, which will be used by Beijing to substantially recalibrate the interaction with the West, and under very different frameworks when it comes to the US and the EU.

Soft power is paramount. Beijing sent an Air China flight to Italy carrying 2,300 big boxes full of masks bearing the script, “We are waves from the same sea, leaves from the same tree, flowers from the same garden.” China also sent a hefty humanitarian package to Iran, significantly aboard eight flights from Mahan Air – an airline under illegal, unilateral Trump administration sanctions.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic could not have been more explicit:

“The only country that can help us is China. By now, you all understood that European solidarity does not exist. That was a fairy tale on paper.”

Under harsh sanctions and demonized since forever, Cuba is still able to perform breakthroughs – even on biotechnology. The anti-viral Heberon – or Interferon Alpha 2b – a therapeutic, not a vaccine, has been used with great success in the treatment of coronavirus. A joint venture in China is producing an inhalable version, and at least 15 nations are already interested in importing the therapeutic.

Now compare all of the above with the Trump administration offering $1 billion to poach German scientists working at biotech firm Curevac, based in Thuringia, on an experimental vaccine against Covid-19, to have it as a vaccine “only for the United States.”

Social engineering psy-op?

Sandro Mezzadra, co-author with Brett Neilson of the seminal The Politics of Operations: Excavating Contemporary Capitalism, is already trying to conceptualize where we stand now in terms of fighting Covid-19.

We are facing a choice between a Malthusian strand – inspired by social Darwinism – “led by the Johnson-Trump-Bolsonaro axis” and, on the other side, a strand pointing to the “requalification of public health as a fundamental tool,” exemplified by China, South Korea and Italy. There are key lessons to be learned from South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.

The stark option, Mezzadra notes, is between a “natural population selection,” with thousands of dead, and “defending society” by employing “variable degrees of authoritarianism and social control.” It’s easy to imagine who stands to benefit from this social re-engineering, a 21st century remix of Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death.

Amid so much doom and gloom, count on Italy to offer us Tiepolo-style shades of light. Italy chose the Wuhan option, with immensely serious consequences for its already fragile economy. Quarantined Italians remarkably reacted by singing on their balconies: a true act of metaphysical revolt.

Not to mention the poetic justice of the actual St. Corona (“crown” in Latin) being buried in the city of Anzu since the 9th century. St. Corona was a Christian killed under Marcus Aurelius in 165 AD, and has been for centuries one of the patron saints of pandemics.

Not even trillions of dollars raining from the sky by an act of divine Fed mercy were able to cure Covid-19. G-7 “leaders” had to resort to a videoconference to realize how clueless they are – even as China’s fight against coronavirus gave the West a head start of several weeks.

Shanghai-based Dr. Zhang Wenhong, one of China’s top infectious disease experts, whose analyses have been spot on so far, now says China has emerged from the darkest days in the “people’s war” against Covid-19. But he does not think this will be over by summer. Now extrapolate what he’s saying to the Western world.

It’s not even spring yet, and we already know it takes a virus to mercilessly shatter the Goddess of the Market. Last Friday, Goldman Sachs told no fewer than 1,500 corporations that there was no systemic risk. That was false.

New York banking sources told me the truth: systemic risk became way more severe in 2020 than in 1979, 1987 or 2008 because of the hugely heightened danger that the $1.5 quadrillion derivative market would collapse.

As the sources put it, history had never before seen anything like the Fed’s intervention via its little understood elimination of commercial bank reserve requirements, unleashing a potential unlimited expansion of credit to prevent a derivative implosion stemming from a total commodity and stock market collapse of all stocks around the world.

Those bankers thought it would work, but as we know by now all the sound and fury signified nothing. The ghost of a derivative implosion – in this case not caused by the previous possibility, the shutting down of the Strait of Hormuz – remains.

We are still barely starting to understand the consequences of Covid-19 for the future of neoliberal turbo-capitalism. What’s certain is that the whole global economy has been hit by an insidious, literally invisible circuit breaker. This may be just a “coincidence.” Or this may be, as some are boldly arguing, part of a possible, massive psy-op creating the perfect geopolitlcal and social engineering environment for full-spectrum dominance.

Additionally, along the hard slog down the road, with immense, inbuilt human and economic sacrifice, with or without a reboot of the world-system, a more pressing question remains: will imperial elites still choose to keep waging full-spectrum-dominance hybrid war against China?

on the internet if you look hard enough you can find 'proof' of anything - even that black is white.

if i had the time or the inclination i could find 'reasons' for anything.

i am all for debate, but posting this sort of thing on an English language website visited by people who have lived and worked in China, and those who still live there with Chinese wives, complete with comments in Chinese, does not do anything for any tolerence on either side.

Let's ignore ANY other viewpoint here without discussion and throw up random links - who needs discussion in the face of overt racism on both sides?

keep up the good work and post more anti-foreigner links complete with comments many of us can't read.

I love racist comments directed at me, especially when i can't understand them.

i;m sorry,

i always find the 'just joking' defense weak.

i usually hear this when some guy makes a vile sexual/racist comment thinking i have not heard it or understood.

the 'just joking' defense is often seen as a free pass to justify a comment that is challenged or an excuse for bad behaviour and will somehow erase what has been said before, followed by the claim 'you are too sensitive'

Here is a tip that i follow:

it is better not to try to make such 'jokes' in a language you are not fluent in or a culture that is very different from your own. you can never be too sure how your 'joke' will be received.

Cloroquine, anti-malaria drug in use ...

https://www.zerohedge.com/health/anti-malaria-pill-shows-promising-resul...

While several drugs are currently being tested to treat COVID-19, an inexpensive anti-malaria drug that's been around for over 70 years has been shown to halt coronavirus in patients who have mild to moderate symptoms.

The drug, chloroquine, was first approved in the US in 1949, and has been widely used as a low-cost method to treat a variety of diseases, including malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. In several studies and through anecdotal evidence, chloroquine appears to significantly limit the replication of COVID-19, particularly when combined with antibiotic azithromycin (Z-Pak).

In a study published Wednesday by French physician-researchers, a total of 36 patients (20 who were treated with chloroqine and 16 controls who were not) revealed that 50% of the treated group turned from positive to negative on the third day - which grew to 70% by the sixth day.

Six test patients were treated with both chloroquine and Z-pak, and all six tested negative for coronavirus on day six.

"Despite its small sample size our survey shows that hydroxychloroquine treatment is significantly associated with viral load reduction/disappearance in COVID-19 patients and its effect is reinforced by azithromycin," the study concludes.

BREAKING:

Both the Dutch CDC and the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical disease have recommended the use of cloroquine for coronavirus patients, along with doctors from China, South Korea and Belgium - which have added the drug to their treatment guidelines. Meanwhile there are over two dozen clinical trials are currently underway to study the efficacy of the drug.

Australian researchers at the University of Queensland say that a combination of chloroquine and Kaletra led to the recovery of some of the first coronavirus patients in the country.

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/global-pandemic-could-have-been-avoided-if-china-had-acted-sooner-study-finds

A scientific study has found that had China acted sooner to combat the spread of their coronavirus, then the spread could have been almost entirely avoided, and it would not have become a global pandemic.

Research out of the University of Southampton in the UK, based on world population mapping funded primarily by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, discovered “that if interventions in [China] could have been conducted one week, two weeks, or three weeks earlier, cases could have been reduced by 66 percent, 86 percent and 95 percent respectively – significantly limiting the geographical spread of the disease.”

Study author Dr Shengjie Lai, of the University of Southampton, comments: “Our study demonstrates how important it is for countries which are facing an imminent outbreak to proactively plan a coordinated response which swiftly tackles the spread of the disease on a number of fronts.”

Director of the University of Southampton’s WorldPop group, Professor Andy Tatem, adds: “We have a narrow window of opportunity globally to respond to this disease and given effective drugs and vaccines are not expected for months, we need to be smart about how we target it using non-drug-related interventions.”

“Our findings significantly contribute to an improved understanding of how best to implement measures and tailor them to conditions in different regions of the world.” Tatem continued.

It has become clear that the first cases of the Chinese virus were reported in mid-late November and early December, with scientists even estimating that the first jump of the virus from animals to humans probably occurred in October in the city of Wuhan.

Instead of acting immediately, the Chinese government waited until January 23rd before issuing quarantine orders to the 11 million people living in Wuhan.

The communist state was also actively working to suppress and punish doctors and scientists who tried to get warnings out, and  lied to the world by claiming there was “no evidence” of human-to-human transmission.

Media: Boo hoo, stop being mean to China! surprise

And that mistake has been, and still is been repeated in other countries. Big sporting events, parades, people out partying, politicians trying to downplay the threat and carry on as though it was 'just the flu'...  it's understandable, the economy is very important and accepting drastic actions need to be taken when all you can see is a few people in the news with a cold is a bit like accepting that small lump on your leg that doesn't even hurt let alone slow you down is cancer and the leg needs to be amputated to save your life.

When this is over and everyone is looking back at what we did wrong I think a lot of people are going to be saying we should have learned from China's initial mistake.

How it spreads ...

https://news.yahoo.com/woman-flew-u-china-coronavirus-054926417.html

The woman from Massachusetts, surnamed Li, reportedly began showing signs of the virus, known as COVID-19, after attending a "company meeting" in late February, Chinese authorities said.

Li, 37, is suspected of having attended a leadership conference hosted by Boston biotech company Biogen. The conference dates match the dates of Li's "company meeting" reported by health authorities.

At least 104 coronavirus cases in Massachusetts have been linked to the Biogen conference. There were guests from Italy, where the death toll from the virus has surpassed 2,500, but there were no guests who had been to China, according to the Boston Globe.

Coronavirus cases in Tennessee, North Carolina, Indiana, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Norway — and suspected cases in Germany, Austria, and Argentina — have been linked to the same conference.

Biogen did not immediately respond to a request from The Times for confirmation of whether Li was a Biotech employee at the conference.

On Tuesday, Beijing health authorities said that Li's husband, surnamed Hong, had also tested positive for the coronavirus. Hong, 37, is a university professor who also is originally from Chongqing and a longtime resident of Massachusetts.

Officials in Australia are scrambling to round up thousands of passengers who disembarked from the Ruby Princess cruise ship in Sydney on Thursday after four people tested positive for the new coronavirus.

About 2,700 passengers disembarked from the ship on Thursday after it docked in the Sydney Harbor at around 6 a.m. local time; 1,100 crew members remain on board.

"Please be advised that all four had reported flu-like symptoms during the cruise, and, along with their stateroom occupants, were in isolation on board the ship minimizing contact with other guests and crew," Princess Cruises said.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
