So according to this trustworthy news source

http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/977162.shtml i

it is Western media bullying leaders of specific countries.

The fact that Iceland had a leader who made the list, speaks to the fact that "it is not only evil empires that has corrupt leaders", the fact that the Icelandic PM was quick to resign speaks to the fact that democracy is a self regulating mechanism compared to the stance of countries who chose to censor information about this.

I like ZeroHedge and Intercept's reporting on the scandal, so c&p is given as I come across the articles nowhere else released.

'add-it': Chinese are doing the same thing, Iceland size is like smaller city in China, so compare Iceland PM and last Chinese military boss in political weight. You can't say only equal is PM for PM. Purge of that military guy was much bigger thing then resignation of Ice PM. Principles? You aren't going to priest me now? He was forced to resign. He didn't say: 'OK, I am guilty. I resign.' There were big demonstrations in Iceland last week demanding his purge. You can't say Western leaders admit and go away.

I know Fonseca Port...who's Mossack?

Haa, Law firm for loaded....people.

I am generally against any Law firm, police or Gov imposing laws against ordinary people. I should practice Law defense by my birth right, but I couldn't stand Law school longer than 'Lex Duodecim Tabularum', so no license.... however I must admit, I have an eye for spotting holes in Law and use it as defence....It's my other passion, when I get tired of trading charts.

Anybody remembers how Constitution was violated by spying on US citizens at 'Up-yours' leak? He was tagged as traitor, but not too many paid attention to violation of the highest US Law by US agencies.

Comparison between Panama and 'Up-yours' leak by G. Greenwald:

https://theintercept.com/2016/04/04/a-key-similarity-between-snowden-leak-and-panamapapers-scandal-is-whats-been-legalized/

Proving that certain behavior is “legal” does not prove that it is ethical or just. That’s because corrupted political systems, by definition, often protect and legalize exactly the behavior that is most unjust. Vital journalism does not only expose law breaking. It also highlights how corrupted political and legal systems can be co-opted by the most powerful in order to legally sanction atrocious and destructive behavior that serves their interests, typically with little or no public awareness that it’s been done.

In such cases, as Jaffer put it, “The deeper scandal is what’s legal, not what’s not.” The key revelation is not the illegality of the specific behavior in question but rather the light shined on how our political systems function and for whose benefit they work. That was true of the Snowden leak, and it’s true of the Panama Papers as well.

It's an off-shore laundry firm. Leak implicates Mossack Fonseca:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/putin-aides-among-world-leaders-exposed-tax-h...

The vast stash of records was obtained from an anonymous source by German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung and shared with media worldwide by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

The documents, from around 214,000 offshore entities covering almost 40 years, came from Mossack Fonseca, a Panama-based law firm with offices in more than 35 countries.

The investigations allege close associates of Putin, who is not himself named in the documents, "secretly shuffled as much as $2 billion through banks and shadow companies".

Twelve current or former leaders are named in the investigations, including the prime minister of Pakistan, the president of Ukraine and the king of Saudi Arabia, as well as sporting and movie stars including Jackie Chan.

Just think, names exposed are cover up for the real mastards!angel

Mossack Fonseca: The Nazi, CIA And Nevada Connections... And Why It's Now Rothschild's Turn

"Jurgen Mossack’s family landed here in the 1960s. During World War IIhis father had served in the Nazi Party’s Waffen-SS, according to U.S. Army intelligence files obtained by the ICIJ. Once in Panamathe elder Mossack offered to spy on communists in Cuba for the CIA."  And yes, Mossack Fonseca may now be history, and its countless uberwealthy clients exposed, but none other than Rothschild is now delighted to be able to fill its rather large shoes.

Link still opens for me in the mainland. Currently nothing in The Guardian reports on the leaked information that would cause their site to get blocked again (like it did the last time there were stories of certain peoples wealth in the BVI). The only mention of here is

"The families of at least eight current and former members of China’s supreme ruling body, the politburo, have been found to have hidden wealth offshore " but we knew this anyway.

The Iceland PM has got himself into a bit of trouble with this. The UK lords with their millions stashed away don't surprise me. The quote above in hotwaters post did surprise me. I thought it would be higher.

this is what happens when you put a millennial worker in a postion at your bank or law firm and give him lousy pay and he sees all these people hiding their money from governments, sort of predictable actually, like camera phone gotcha's in the newspapers, its a new world for better or worse.

panama is actually pretty flexible, many americans retire with 500 dollars or better direct deposit and get permanent residency and eventually a passport there.

i dont have the big bucks for the law firm, but i do have a bank acccount there and a passport.

the canal is run by a hong kong company, so the money flowing through from china is no real surprise, thank you jimmy carter for the unintended consequences and the country is already close to 20 percent chinese in population.

i sort like hackers that are forcing transparency, keeps the elite snobs on their toes so to speak.

There is more to come apparently. Americans will be in the news soon according to what I was reading today.

The thing is, what they are doing is not actually illegal. Most of it anyway.

My issue with this whole story is how far people go to avoid tax. Governments still need to raise their money tho, so the people who suffer most from this are the pay as your earn taxpayers. Their tax bill goes up to make up for the budget short falls.

For example, the UK Prime Minister has money there. Inherited from his late dad. "Its a private matter", he said. In the meantime he cuts benefits for the disabled, gives tax breaks to the rich, and hits the ordinary working person with stealth taxes.

ScotsAlan:

Sorry. I correct myself. The British PM does not have money there. It was moved to Ireland some years back. But he did inherit money that was hidden from the tax man. Still is hidden in a way...its in Ireland.

Stiggs:

I think that's what pisses people off the most. It's not so much that they have money stashed somewhere, it's the fact that the average guy is paying taxes till it hurts, while the big corporations, politicians etc dodge paying them. Politicians especially lose all credibility since they're the ones taking and spending everyone else's tax money.

The matter of where the money came from is another issue. Everyone understands a drug lord or something laundering or hiding big sums of money, but a politician  doing it raises eyebrows.

Bloomberg's interview with Mossack and Fonseca:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-04-05/cat-out-bag-interview-mossack-f...

"The cat’s out of the bag,” Mossack said. “So now we have to deal with the aftermath.”

Perhaps it is for Panama. But one place is delighted to take its placethe US, and specifically states like Nevada and Wyoming, which as we showed before, are the new global tax havens.

Recall that according to a recent investigation by Bloomberg, "The World’s Favorite New Tax Haven Is the United States" ...

Yes, Mossack Fonseca may now be history, and its countless uberwealthy clients exposed, but none other than Rothschild is now delighted to be able to fill its rather large shoes.

In fact, someone with a conspiratorial bent may decide that the dramatic takedown of the Panama "tax offshoring" industry was nothing more than a hit designed to crush the competition of US-based "tax haven" providers... such as Rothschild.

Are you ready?

Every third Native no English teacher in China has ....You've never said, you all have an account ... I can't angel believe that.....

The 'Panama Papers' law firm has more offices in China than in any other countryAFP

BeijingLintao Zhang / Getty StaffA general view shows the headquarter of China Central Television amid the Beijing skyline at central business district.

Beijing (AFP) - The Panamanian law firm at the heart of a massive leak of offshore banking records has more offices in China than any other country, its website shows, raising questions about its activities in the Communist-ruled country.

'...It Don't Mean a Thing, If It Ain't Got That Swing...' by virtouoso Stephane Grappeli & Barney Kessel....

Offshore companies are not illegal and can be used for legitimate business needs, but commonly feature in corruption cases, where they are used to secretly move ill-gotten gains abroad.

Mossack Fonseca's offices in China include the major financial centres of Shanghai and Shenzhen, as well as port cities Qingdao and Dalian, but also lesser-known provincial capitals such as Shandong's Jinan, known for its links to China's coal industry, and Hangzhou in Zhejiang, along with Ningbo, also in the eastern province.

Fallen political star Bo Xilai was once the mayor of Dalian, and at least 48 officials from Shandong have been caught up in Beijing's anti-graft campaign according to information maintained by the Asia Society on its Chinafile website.

I love that several news media uses this joyful trio as photographic evidence for which rich super villains have exploited the masses through severe tax avoision

    Shining_brow:

Which probably only goes to show... that the US elite used a different Panamanian company to siphon/launder their money through... (or a different country.. Cook Islands is a good idea - they have a law that no financial documents for banks, investment companies, etc can be handed over due to a court order - only if voluntarily requested by the business/customer).

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-04-07/putin-denounces-panama-papers-u...

Putin Denounces "Panama Papers" As U.S. Plot To Destabilize Russia

The last few days days have been rife with speculation about the motivation, if any, behind the release of the Panama Papers, with the most prominent example coming from Wikileaks two days ago on Twitter which accused the journalist consortium behind the leak, the ICIJ, of being a "Washington DC based Ford, Soros funded soft-power tax-dodge which has a WikiLeaks problem" and adding that "PanamaPapers Putin attack was produced by OCCRP which targets Russia & former USSR and was funded by USAID & Soros."

Washington DC based Ford, Soros funded soft-power tax-dodge "ICIJ" has a WikiLeaks problem #PanamaPapers https://t.co/xEXlmGg0fG

    — WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) April 5, 2016

    — WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) April 5, 2016

As we further suggested, the fact that none other than Rothschild, which is trying to corner the US-based "tax haven" sector, stands to benefit from the collapse of the Panama offshoring industry (as international clients who demand to maintain their anonymous status are forced to move to the US), may lead to further questions about a potential conflict of interest behind said release.

But while these and many other questions will remain unanswered, including why the ICIJ is cherrypicking which names to release especially as pertains to US clients of the Panamanian law firm, earlier today Russian president Putin made his first public announcement on the topic of the Panama Papers.

Acording to AP, Putin denied having any links to offshore accounts and described the Panama Papers document leaks scandal as "part of a U.S.-led plot to weaken Russia." Putin described the allegations as part of the U.S.-led disinformation campaign waged against Russia in order to weaken its government. "They are trying to destabilize us from within in order to make us more compliant," he said.

I see the Spanish Industry minister is the latest to resign over being a named customer. No link sorry, the news was on an app.

What I find most interesting is what English language news network is carrying the story...faux news.

None of the left wing media has this news as a headline. This is why I read a mixture of news. All mainstream news is biased. You need to read between the lines without a tinfoil hat on.

I reckon the UK Prime Minister has got away with his dad's offshore funds, but I reckon the UK Government will have a few resignations soon. On both sides of the bench.

Fascinating to read the UK right wing press, and see how they are setting people up for the fall.  The newspapers have the info. But it will come out slow.
