Q: Are you a necromancer?
It seems that the first task of any troll is to resurrect old, dead posts.
Next, of course, is banal questions with no back-story or relevant details that would give a normal member of the forum some basis for discussion.
Third is the sock-puppet - ask a question then "mysteriously" appears an "expert" on the topic, "Where can I get tickets to the Anti-XYZ meeting" followed up quickly by "another" poster, "You can, of course, get tickets to the Anti-XYZ meeting by visiting en.damai.cn Damai is proud to hate XYZ and all government organizations. Damai.cn wants revolution and to overthrow governments."
Fourth is the equally banal personal question that has nothing to do with China but stirs up debate nonetheless, "Why are YOU such a loser that YOU can't get a job in your home country?"
Fifth is the appeal by narcissists and ego-boosters, "Am I not the most perfect person you've ever seen? Why don't you worship me?" That, in itself, is not such a problem as the puppies who go flocking to the narcissist, "I very love you, please ignore the other posters cuz I is different." Surprising how many saps have been emasculated by our resident troll/narcissist and yet they, and others, just keep on trying.
Who's to blame for all this shite? The Admin, naturally. But because there is no effective admin on this site, the fault rests with us...the regular members. By "feeding the trolls" and giving them the attention that they so much crave, YOU give them the will and drive to continue. It's not amusing, interesting or in any way a positive thing.
Want them to stop? Ignore them. Stop feeding them. By not responding, they'll certainly ramp up the scope and desperate attempts at getting attention, but with no attention, they'll eventually dry up and wither on the vine.
Everyone laments the departure of the old posters, some move on, some give up. We cannot stop people from moving on but we can try to stem the tide of those who give up by keeping the forum somewhat decent. The only way to do that is to recognize and ignore the (obvious) attempts at baiting and trolling. Report the posts that cross the line of good taste or are obvious Spam. Hell, I think I report at least 10 posts a day for this (although nothing becomes of it and it reminds me of national elections).
The fate of the forum (such as it is) is in our hands.

Admin has taken no interest in the forum for some time and i admit for me the forum has become a time filler
the main page very rarely has anything new and that is mirrored here
the quality and relevence of posts has been poor for a long long time now
If the OP is willing to take point on here and try to get the forum back on track you have my support
However Admin needs to show some leader ship and do what they are paid to do
and that includes to fix the tech glitches that were reported years ago
@Gorge Xi you need to put your hand in your pocket and Hire a competent person to administer this site

I reckon that many of the recent Admin's are got in on a 'trial' basis for low pay and with little or no experience (most likely Uni students) and therefore are not fit for anything other than choosing the randomly poor 'news' items.
Hence the poor engagement with issues of concern for posters, like keeping questions relevant.

Yes you are right @sinobear, especially i noticed one trend, thumbs ups and thumbs down are now happening in bunch..it means there is a group of wumaos, sitting together and doing all these together ..
also echinacities already lost lot of users to their app based competitor..
Let us decided one thing as suggested by Sinobear..let us not feed the trolls..

I noticed that same thing on the "I found you all on other networks!" post.
Thats one of the creepiest trolls threads i've seen here. No way it got a ton of upvotes. Maybe somebody thought it was funny, couple touchscreen errors making a down into an up (i'm guilty of that a lot) but no way this big groundswell of support for that thread.
Theres def one troll with 5-6 accounts

At the beginning I assumed that the admincat would continue to do their job...I was wrong.

I tend to play Chaotic Good, or perhaps true Neutral... and occasionally a Paladin, and thus Lawful Good.
All of which precludes the evil that is necromancy...

When you wrote "old school", I was thinking 1st Edition!!! Not 3.5!!!!!! You know, when an elf was basically a class (fighter/mage with XP penalties for being 'dual-classed'!)

I'm hoping that once I've finished what I've got to do (which is in about 3 weeks) then I'll see if the contact I made really meant it about setting up regular sessions!

Well, I think im a bit accurate with the "old school" term, as I had to delve deep into the recesses of my mind to pull the title "a Plethora of Paladins" that was in a Dragon Magazine I had as a kid. Sure, D&D, AD&D goes back further than when I was a kid...wouldnt that be ancient school instead of old school?! Good Travels, Journys, and Adventures with your future sessions. cheers.

Btw - 5e has no alignment restrictions! Including on Pallies... or even monks and druids!! (though, with monks, it does say 'mostly lawful')
I've been a part of many answer forums, and the best ones are where the Admin has a hands off approach.

it is unfortunate to say, but previously ECC was one of the few places where intelligent discussion/debate was still possible in and about China.
However it is been over-run by the trolls who make it no better than the average level of 'debate' and butt-hurt currently possible from many Chinese people who are obsessed by self and/or face.
Thanks to excessive trolling by certain posters, the use of multiple aliases and spammers, it is no longer a useful site.
