Q: Are you sick of looking for a new job?

I am. I am sick of the ones that got away, the deals that fell through, and the one I should have accepted but is since taken. I am also sick of the long drawn out processes I'm entangled in with three schools.

I just want a decent position. I think I'll tell them I will decide by this coming Friday. I'm done with this.

What about you? Did you get lucky? Find a good one? Still looking? Did your search begin in March, or April, or May, or will you start later?

I quit job at Training School in Dalian, and accepted work at Public School, with low teaching hours (no office), and high pay.

I have little problem at the part-time job, but probably I must head to Urumqi, 40 km away, because all Foreign teachers positions here are Gov. subsidized, so it is impossible to get work on the side, and beside that this is very small city.

I take looking for a job same as my 'part time work', and I am always happy when I am done with it! Looking for job is always tedious!

I'm glad you found a good place. Sometimes I think I should just find a high school anywhere for 9k per month and stay.

Why is it impossible to work on the side? Something to do with the government?

Nobody care for part-time teachers, because School won't get subsidized by Gov. for part-time teacher.  School must pay part-time out of its own budget, at least in my city.

It's always going to be that way! Just start a company/ small business and run your own hours hire your own employee's and be the boss! That's what I want to do, but I have to still stick with what I'm doing until I get that opportunity chance. (Drunk!

bill8899:

Have you ever started a business? I worked day and night when operating my business. "Set your own hours." Baloney. Stop reading the spam ads. After some time you may be able to hire a manager and others to reduce your hours, but starting a business is 24/7 8 days a week.

And no, in my business, Google did not pay me $173 per hour.

It's even more frustrating when schools try to rip you off in contracts but won't budge or negotiate.

My current school - a private international school which has only recently gone down the international route, is trying to offer me 15k per month, but, there are many conditions.  If I teach less than 17.5 hrs per week, they want to reduce my salary to 8k.  They will also only pay 3k for a flight, and they won't pay for the visa or anything.

The clamping down on rules etc is supposed to make things better, but I don't see it, unless you are lucky enough to work for the Government directly, but that can be like an inmate going to bed with the Prison's boss. :(

Ouch. They're crazy. Just say "no".

Tell them, you'll quit if they won't budge! Be ready (to quit) all the time: 'look at job adverts daily!'. You should be able to move on the short notice (30 days). Be aware, Native English teachers are 'rarity' in the Schools in China.

Find job at the Public School with low teaching hours, and work Training mills on the side, only!

icniff,

I know mate, I know.

It's just this is Shenzhen, so it's a little harder to get a decent position with the competition here.  In this city, you need to be available now if you want to be guaranteed a position, not in thirty days.

A current suitor, who is in Chengdu even, is a case in point.

I state 30 days, because of the Resignation notice. I resign with R. notice, so I cannot start at new School tomorrow, like some ask me to.

My aim is to preserve my Residence permit. If Schools in Shenzhen ask you to start tomorrow, what they do for Residence permit?

I don't consider School, which ask me to start tomorrow! What about R. permit? Will you work with 'F'? They must pay very, very good hourly wage to switch from R. permit to F, and start to work for them tomorrow.

Work sucks, I'd never find work that I want like managing a massage parlour. Thank God for Visa cards.
