Q: Are you still polite... ?
I have put my manners away...I no longer hold doors - especially for the male of the species,I no longer clear my table at McD/KFC...I no longer do many things that I would back in England...reason being - well you all know the reasons.
I find the children to be spoilt and are allowed to get away with murder... The older ones leave me cold - I really have no respect for them. The only ones that behave in an acceptable way are the young to middle aged - and the educated. They know that behaviour here is not right - can you guys imagine arriving back home and strolling around like they do here... ? People would think you had lost it - big time.
But,they - as so many here have commented - believe that because they are Chinese that they/their way is right... It really pisses me off !
So how do you compare your behaviour here to your behaviour back home ?

I am the same asshole I was when I got here .... but still very polite to the elderly and the middle aged and the teen aged brats and the children ............ not much different ..... I am a nice guy, haven't changed and not gonna change......I open doors for anybody, taxi or restaurant or home... just because that is what I do..... Everything I do for somebody else, no matter how small it may be, not only does it make me feel better, but I get so any commendations from people that just have never had anything "nice" done for them before ... // believe me... it feels good to do good.
2 years here and I believe that the people are good ...... I can only hope to be as "good" as the people I have met in China.

No I was never polite to begin with. I burped in this ladies ear the other day on the escalators and also turned my music really loud so the guy next to me couldn't go to sleep on the subway. I intentionally spat on the floor where people would step and picked my bugars and flicked them where people would eventually lay their hands....

Like many people subjected to years of brain-washing , my native programming is still in working order, despite attempts to remove these indoctrined behaviour patterns.
