Q: Are you worth the money you're making in China?

Just in terms of the skills, education you have, as well as the number of hours and effort you put in every week, would you say you're underpaid, overpaid or properly compensated?

For me, it isn't about the paycheck.  It is about doing something that I love.  My father once told me that if you do what you love, the money will eventually find you.

mArtiAn:

Yeh, my dad told me the same thing. Problem is I used to love jerking off, and it wasn't money that found me, it was my mum.

You should stick to regular bouts of drunkenness and incommon sense, that common sense makes little sense and experience shows makes tuppence worth of nonsense.

I've always undervalued myself and kidded myself that I was being self effacing or modest, but coming to China was odd because on the one hand my first wage was low by many westerners standards, only 3000 a month plus accommodation, but being poorly educated and without any relevant qualifications I accepted it gratefully and worked hard to improve my skills as a teacher. However I was also aware that it was higher than that of my Chinese colleagues, so however low it was to western eyes I actually still felt like I was doing pretty ok.

I'm worth what I gain. Both money and other services provided by my company.

Actually, I'm worth a lot more, but I enjoy what I do, and it is all under the auspice of research. I came to China, not for the money, but to experience a different culture, and through various projects I'm working on while here, that will translate into capital once I get back to the States.

I am getting what i deserve..but not delivering according to my potential..my company gave me less responsibility than my capability

LAR:

Hi volt,

Why don't you talk to your manager and ask for more responsibility? When management sees that you are a positive and hard-working employee who wants to learn and isn't afraid to tackle/complete new assignments..it will be a win-win situation! Who knows? It might earn you a raise/promotion! :)

I'm underpaid which sucks based on my education and work experience. I made much more money in South Korea.

With the amount of hours I put in I reckon I'm slightly underpaid, or rather not properly compensated. But I get more than my Chinese counterparts who don't really put in that much overtime so I can't complain really.

i feel like im overpaid. compared to the usa im not making shit  but living here is really cheap and i get a free apartment with all the bills paid for. all i have to do is buy my food and toys. even though im not not making alot of money in terms of american standards, i do get to basically save everything im making. so in the long run im saving up thousands of dollars which i wouldn't be able to do back home.
