Have you been to other Asian countries? have you seen how people treat you ? It's the same !
Thailand , Japan and Middle eastern countries are Asian countries and they are not different from China.
We (everyone) only picture the Hollywood picture (i.e superiority to the white person and every other race is inferior) in our minds that we don't accept any other version of this race pyramid because we still watch Hollywood. For example, you don't imagine seeing a Chinese with big muscles who can beat you, you don't accept meeting a better educated Chinese person than you , even some Chinese they don't imagine meeting a foreigner who is worse than them,the Hollywood picture is always in our minds. West taught this to the world during colonialism and now we are enjoying the fruit of colonialism.So don't blame the student , blame the teacher.

Hollywood features predominantly white people because the USA is predominantly white. China interprets that as "light skin is nicer to look at." If you watch carefully, minorities get a lot of feature time as well. And do you notice how tanned all the white actors are?
Hollywood isn't perfect. It features too many black men and asian women, because many people feel that they are attractive. Black women rarely appear on TV unless they have supermodel physique or are famous somehow. Asian men also have great difficulty finding work as an actor, unless they are famous to a target demographic (Jet Lee or Jackie Chan).
Does that prove that Hollywood is racist? Yes to a certain extent, but NO to the implications you are inferring. Hollywood does try to give a fair chance to black women and asian men, but in the end, it's viewer ratings that they are catering to. They can't help it if consumer demand dictates preferences.
Are you and the rest of the world victim to indoctrination? Is the race pyramid reinforced by the media? NO and NO. That all happens in our minds, and if Hollywood drew more attention to the matter, it would backfire.
Yangism in China is the cause of your focus on self, and static identity. "Who am I? What is my worth in society? Who are my peers, my lessers and my betters? How good am I?" These are thoughts everyone has as teenagers, and it can lead to some pretty ugly confrontations. Believe me, I know. Most people realize that life starts to go more smoothly once you stop worrying about these things. Then you exude more confidence, get into less fights, the girls will like you more, and your compentence increases and is appreciated.
China is still stuck in adolescence. That's why people focus too much on Face/Mianzi and all that nonsense. Other asian countries have this to a lesser degree. But that doesn't mean it is normal in Asia, nor should it be acceptable.
Is it the result of being victimized by colonialism? No. I compare that to an angry teenager blaming all his/her problems on some selfish thing their parents chose to do: "Daddy always picked me up in an old secondhand car, and didn't buy me a motorbike. Now nobody thinks I'm cool, and Eve married Adam. My life has never recovered. I hate the world."
Instead of blaming Hollywood and being adolescent towards foreigners, I'd advise you to get on with your life and stop focusing on Mianzi. It makes you lose face.
Many people in foreign countries actually have a high opinion of the Chinese. The positive-spin propaganda tales. The big construction and high-speed trains. The over-reporting of economic growth. Foreigners get the impression that China is focusing on improving itself, and our opinion of China goes up.
Also, since Chinese abroad are quiet and polite, we believe we are dealing with well-adjusted people who deserve our respect. When Chinese are a minority, they are model citizens, and never bother people with racism or seething hatred. We always thought Chinese were like this because they are from an advanced society with cultured, sophisticated sensibilities. We never imagined they behave this way merely out of cowardice.
I was one of those people who thought highly of China. I went there expecting to find hardworking, balanced, rational people focused on productive self-improvement. I had high hopes of meeting interesting people and doing useful things.
I arrived to find a bunch of petty, insecure adolescents unable to behave normally to me. I was disappointed, and I found many like-minded people here on ECC. We are put to work in kindergartens, so kids' parents can maximize face gain.
We have skills that China desperately needs. We offer international cultural exchange and world knowledge that China is in dire need of. But we are not put to use. China is wallowing in self-pity while it jacks itself off for gratification.
Is Hollywood to blame for this? Is the West unreasonable to expect reason? Come now: IT'S UP TO YOU GUYS to pull yourself out of the mud. The rest of the world is offering a helping hand, but China is content to convulse in the mud while it claims the world is against him.
Hollywood is not racist. You are.
The West is not hostile. You are.
USA is not (that much of) a menace. You are.

best answer of the new year for any topic, if i could find a decent bar, i would buy you a 30 year mccallens on the rocks right now, but it would probably be watered down ethanol with food coloring and we would both be dead soon from liver disease. funny how minorities in america are complaining about not enough actors actresses in competition for oscars this year and the studios say, "well china is half our viewing market now and the chinese censors want let us show films with blacks, or homosexual innuendos, and we have to cater to our customers and asian preferences, so translation, it's not going to get better, its going to get worse because we the west are kowtowing to sharia law in the middle east and racism in asia for the sake of money. but its always the fault of the west for everything. very sad.

That happens with forgiveness and acknowledgement and both parties need to be adults. Japan apologized many times face to face and publicly. Ask any person, should your nose be continuously rubbed in your mistakes? If Mao himself said the islands issue should be resolved later, then how can you then claim that there was some magical agreement that Japan signed over those islands at the end of WW2? I'm preaching to the choir, everyone who has access to free uncensored information can look it up themselves. So we all know who's in the wrong.
I echo your sentiment about preferring Japan but not able to meet their high standards. Countries like Japan and USA should have high standards. I often criticize my government and both parties for letting anyone in and giving/ selling citizenship..
Obviously you've never been served authentic mexican food by a transvetite in Bangkok or sat on the floor in a very modest restaurant next to the CEO of "big company" eating the same food. Asia is NOT all the same. People in all the other Asian countries I've been to have been far nicer and more accepting of differences.

They are not the same. They are other countries. Just because countries occupy the same continent, doesn’t make them the same.
You obviously never have seen Hollywood movies, or paid attention to how Chinese view non-Chinese. How about this for a game?: I’ll list the non-white heroes in American movies, and you can list the non-yellow heroes in Chinese movies, and we can compare lists.
Also, you are using “Chinese” and “foreigner” as racial terms, which is more telling of your own ethnic nationalism. China’s ethnic nationalism (that there is a Chinese race, and only people of a certain race are “really Chinese” or really “belong in China”) is not to be blamed on the West, but your own racist views.
