Q: On average, how many likes does a Chinese woman get on wechat for every foreigner photo?

It's been discussed before, the annoyance of the secret photograph taking.

Do you think the millions of photos of us on wechat somehow elevate the photographer into wechat God status? Or do they just get 2 likes per photo?

Depends on the point system perhaps.  Skinny fat, pale faced, chinless, curley haired younglings' don't earn much on the Wechat photo market. But if you're one of the craziest of the crazy foreigners - grey strands of clown hair popping out in a scraggly afro fashion, torn and tethered clothes with paint spattered all over them (mad artist perhaps) horned rimmed glasses with cracked lenses, shoes that are completely falling apart... some holier than thou sense of wisdom requiring you to teach anybody and everybody something about anything so long as they cross your path, along with slapping them with your teaching stick...   That would probably be the holy grail of foreigners to catch on camera!

Haha, this is one of the few things about China that still makes of laugh.

Those women in the subway think they are so discrete when taking my photo using their phone.

What they don't know is I also take their photo then post it on voyeur porn websites.

I make a show of taking their photo too :)

There must be countless pictures of me out there flipping them off. I just cant ignore it.

The best part is when you give em the finger now they are mad at you! Why is this foreigner so rude when i am only secretly taking his picture to put it online? Foreigners are sooo aggressive!

Sometimes on the metro I catch someone recording videos of me standing there. I can see the reflection in the glass windows.

Just so fucking strange. I am coincidentally a very beautiful man, definitely pretty stunning looking with my hair gel and tailored suits, though of couse my real advantage over all of you chumps & chumpettes is my breathtaking sense of modesty and graciousness.

But it's not just appearance because I don't feel compelled to record videos of hot russian chicks I see on the train. And half the time it's a guy doing it.

There really is something of fascination with foreigners here. Like here we have a stunning example of the rare foreign devil...he appears to be traveling on a train wearing his native dress. Perhaps going to some kind of wild sex party. What is he really doing? no one knows. We have to keep our distance because foreign devils can be unpredictable.

ScotsAlan:

I don't get it either.

What prompted me to ask the question was a strange encounter the other evening.

In the bar, having an after work beer. Maybe about 10  foreigners in ( Malaysians, Indonesians, some Brits and some from Oz and NZ.

It's not an expat bar. Just a bar, and it just happens to have a lot of foreigners in because of a contract in a local shipyard.

These two girls come in, sit themselves in the corner, order a token drink each, and then proceed to try covertly video tape and photograph all the going on.

One of the guys thought they were under cover cops.

Nah, I said, they just want photos and videos of foreigners to put on their wechat.

Of course it was only the white dudes who were photographed, The Malaysian and Indonesian guys were totally ignored by the not so covert undercover wechat agents.  I felt a bit embarased really that these girls were being so blatantly racist.

I most definitley felt my privacy was being violated. It felt different to someone taking a quick snap on a train, or in the park.

These girls had gone out of their way, and even spent money (on drinks they did not drink), to sit for half an hour snapping the back of white foreigners heads and then frantically uploading onto wechat or QQ.

It's not even as if they were having their own post work drink and chat. They were just sitting with their phones held up high.

I took photos of them too wink

Yeah...I mean it's not hostile. So it's not something that you can really get angry about without looking like a total twat.

It's just kinda disconcerting. I can't relate even one bit to the desire to do that.

I totally get why celebrities punch out photographers. I just feel like it's somebody just waiting for me to do something embarassing for their own benefit.

The person doing that isn't rooting for us to have a nice relaxing time doing our things.

It happens quite a lot, I've seen my photo on peoples QQ on wechat, people that I haven't even met. I had one person who had my photo on his diplay picture and another one with my photo and his photo on his display picture. But then again I live in a City with like 20 foreigners... We are kind of a novetly

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
