Star 32569, how long have you been in China?.  If long enough, you should know by now  that here, no contract is worth he paper it is written on.  What does exist here is the law of the "bully".

If you are banned from China, depending the severity of the reason, you will not be allowed to enter China for a number of years (ie: 1, 2 5,10, forever).  I know many that quit their jobs,  went back home, got another job and got a new Z visa.  I get it will depend on the reason for breaking the contract and how well you have documented your case

Your boss might say that to scare you and force you to do as he wants. It's fairly common here, in some industries, including English teaching. If you did not do something wrong ("wrong" as in "involving police and/or justice"), I would say he is bluffing. Let him blow wind. However, to get a new work visa, you might have to leave China.

Hahaha never ever pay the break contract fee. Ive never heard of anyone actually paying. But they might hold your pay on those grounds. So you leave when its best for you.

If you leave, the worst they can do is cancel you visa, but you want that anyways. They are not allowed to keep your passport or not release you. Go to SAFEA if they threaten it.

You will certainly not be banned from china for leaving a school or contract. Some school will say you will be blacklisted. But again not gonna happen for that reason.

I hate when people are too scared to leave crappy situations. Tell your boss to suck it and go find happiness.

yeah remember too that they look bad if they go after their own employee, it doesn't exact reflect well on them; at best they made a bad hiring decision.
