Q: Baptism of Fire for the new Moderators?

So, a few days of down-time and now the trolls are back in force.

What are the new moderators going to do about it?

My suggestions: ban Delphine86, Vicky (and the trolls that mysteriously appear with its presence), and implement a zero-tolerance policy until such time as trolls, sock-puppets and time-wasters leech onto some other site.

I guess it depends on how you define a troll.

If it's someone here to stimulate conversation by asking lame questions (possibly on the ECC payroll) then I personally have no problem with that. They're generally not offensive and if they don't interest me I just move on. I don't see that as trolling.

If it's someone looking for attention by asking stupid questions I don't have a real problem with that either. I might think they're a dick and ignore their post, but I don't care if they put their personal life online for people to criticize. Again. not trolling, just idiots. Sometimes even entertaining.

If it's someone obviously looking to offend people and stir shit, then I say ban them and their I.P address, don't just delete their posts. It's straight up trolling.

ok,, I'm not the most internet savvy person around,,,,, but I like Vicki!  I thought she was real,,, ok,,, maybe I'm naive.  but I thought she was just an averagely silly young girl who wanted to interact with some foreigners/white guys and I thought it was fun doing that.  ok,,, maybe I'm an idiot and there was something bad about it.

*note- I didn't see/read/follow every time she posted on here

Cant say I like Vicki, but I for one am amused by her antics at times. So, in a way I agree with you.

Seriously?? Who cares? Certainly not me for the most part. The asinine, hit hungry, ignorant, vacuous, attention seeking and the like don't bother me at all. An obvious troll is, well, obvious. And they can be easily ignored.

The only ones that bother me are when they cross a moral or ethical line....like that overtly racist bullshit today with the username ihatehonkies. Schrodinger's Admin Cat should have nipped that in the bud a little earlier. Perhaps when that screen name was registered.

Stiggs:

That fuckwit wasn't even banned though. It's still posting on the front page as a guest. WTF.

Sorry, phone reply

icnif77:

Do you usually apologize to your phone?

I did that to my cat sometimes, but if I kick the chair in my house, I'm usually silent.

I'm much  different than you.

I always get cautioned, when somebody calls me 'my friend'!

Why? It never, ever happened somebody would say to me 'my friend, here is 100 bucks for you....'

and it always happened 'my friend, do me a favor....'angel, or 'my friendo, give me this or that ....'

Hearing 'my friend' always puts me in the running mood....

perhaps the new moderators should get a list of new sign up members daily by email to eliminate the obvious problems.

if there is such a moderator give them a moderator account so they keep their anonymity but we can see them doing there job .
prove me wrong

icnif77:

I guess, statement 'we don't harmonize such threads, except personal attacks' is because it's nobody there.

Even if mod exists, that's a hard work and it had to paid well.

IMO, Chinese won't pay and Westerner won't accept it.

agreed, a moderator should get a western wage on this ludicrous site... when I retired I was costing my company over $100 per hour .....  not in my account, but benefits etc.   I think a decent "moderator" or "pretend employee" should be getting at a minimum, 1500RMB per month, and there could and should be bonuses for helpful insights into the brains of frequent, occasional and drop-in users.

Make it worthwhile, for your employee and you will  get a better product and probably. possibly, potentially a more thriving business. more money to the bosses bank account.

I'd say, we could dislodge 'mu-waos' threads just by talking OT at such threads.angel

I don't get it.

We live in a country that is not exactly famed for freedom of expression, and here we are on ECC, pretty much free to say what we want ( carefully at times), and you want moderated.

I thought that's the last thing we would want.

Sure, there will always be idiots with something to prove who post stuff on here we don't like, but I can take the rough with the smooth. I would not be posting on here if I was an over sensitive person.

Why the need for someone to hold your hands wink.

If there are mods on here, I would prefer not to see them. I don't want every post I do ( after a few beers perhaps) to have a message from some admin bod  telling me I have been "moderated".  That would be me wanting someone else to take responsibility for what I post rather than have to face up to my actions.

I thought we were doing pretty well self moderating. Down voting spam, letting idiot posters they were idiot posters etc.

Message from Admin

I can confirm there are user mods assisting me with the running of this site. They monitor posts, notify me of any issues and tidy up double or triple posts.

I have instructed the user mods that posts should only be removed as a last resort. It is the aim of ECC that all posters can have an informative, lively and fun interaction on this board. Posts will only be removed when they violate the T&Cs of this site, or they potentially violate the local laws and regulations.
