Are there any micro/craft breweries in Nanjing?

Just had a quick check on Bing (search engines are very useful things you know!) and came across the "Octoberfest beer company Nanjing" run by a local guy. Problem is that all the sites that mention it won't open without a VPN. A guy called Yan Gao. There was a craft beer festival in 2013

hope ps you find somewhere....GZ now has a small but growing craft beer scene with The Strand, Lazy Boys, Restarea, My Beer taproom, The Standing Goose.

Thanks for flaming mewink  Yeah, I'm familiar with search engines but will admit I didn't use Bing.  I couldn't find anything besides a few dead links, and those you linked are old with dead numbers.  That guy still makes beer, but he seems hard to track down according to a couple locals I spoke with.

Thanks for the info on GZ.  I'm going down there later in the year and I'll be sure to try a couple of the places you mentioned.

I use Bing when my vpn is playing up as it plays by the rules here (so isn't as good as Goog!)

When you head down here drop me on PM & I'll give you the addresses of places to go.

Interesting article today on China Daily but unfortunately no contact details.

wagon:

What are the odds, huh?  I would never have read China Daily either.  Funny, they write a big story on the guy and neglect to tell you where you can get one of his beers-instead advertising for Great Leap.

He probably didn't pay the journalist enough to print his contact info!

I read the China Daily everyday on my iPhone. Good to keep up with the local propaganda.

Gao Yan's Baby IPA. He brews others too, but this is the only one I've had. It's decent, but not adventurous like many American IPA's. I think he's keeping it kind of tame for the Chinese market.

Hotwater:

Where did you find it?

The article I linked above did say he'd aimed the taste of his beers more at the local market. I suppose it depends on what you're used to. I was out last night with the GZ craft beer group & had a bottle of traditional British IPA & my American friends thought it was a bit light & not enough hops!

Jimmy's near the Sheraton has about 25 different beers on tap including Master Gao's Mad Ting double IPA, Baby IPA and his American IPA. Also selections from Karl Strauss, Chimay, St. Feuillien and Delerium. The Pijiu Passport is a fun way to try all the different beers

May Mircrobrewery

Lanyuan No.28 Unit (West Gate), Tai Ping Bei Lu, Xuanwu district

For the list in Chinadaily article's address in english and chinese,  try spoonhunt, equivalent of foreigner's Dianping/ Yelp.

You can search "beer" at www.spoonhunt.com, or wechat ID: spoonhunt for mobile app.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
