Q: Beijing Ham Emergency
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know where I can buy a ham to cook for Christmas in Beijing?

I do not know about Beijing but in the south it is rather easy.
Try to find a legit imported food shop. They will usually have them.
If that fails, go to a real western restaurant that will hold a xmas dinner, thats what I do for turkeys ( I have also done ham) , Not to eat there but they can get them and will surely sell you one. They might also be able to cook it for you and deliver if you dont have an oven large enough.
Try larger " western style" supermarkets like Ole. I saw some butterball turkeys in their freezers like 2 days ago. Worth a look.
Very last case scenario is call up a five star hotel. I have never done it but I went for a xmas dinner one year and they had ham and I asked if I could have a ham catered and they said of course.

Yep, one thing I like about Guangdong, it's much easier to find imported food here than in the North including Beijing and Shanghai. Thanks to those smugglers bringing in stuff from HK and the many shops selling it, let alone the big foreign chains that are also in the rest of the country but much more present here.
