Q: Beijing Stages it's own Tomatina Tomato Throwing Festival?

Why?  Thousands of years of history and these idiots have to copy a tradition that only occurs in one Spanish city? It has nothing to do with anything other than this one city!  Why are the Chinese so moronic? Last time it was no pants on the subway to raise awareness for global warming!  The no pants events around the world have nothing to do with raising awareness for global warming. Can someone explain why someone thought it was a good idea to copy the La Tomatina festival and waste so many tomatoes when the streets are filled with beggars?

I can't see that happening. Spain uses ripe tomatoes, green hard Chinese tomatoes will hurt. I can see it as a protest over terrible tomatoes, but most likely the people will just take home free tomatoes, Chinese don't know how to have rawdy fun. A ''Gutter Oil Festival'' would be more appropriate.

Great to copy food waste. I think the Spanish get away with it, because it is an old stoopid tradition. But starting it from new.... Why not throw entire durians ?

Chinese waste so much food anyway, they forgot that they were starving 35 years ago.

TedDBayer:

Waste food? I always felt Chinese food was like eating left overs, neck bones and no meat. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I finally had Peking Duck, beautiful picture, dish looked great, beautiful duck breast but no meat. They waste nothing, often serving the heads, floating duck head hotpot. And who wants snakes in booze? I thought worms in Tequila was bad, what balls Chinese have !!

TedDBayer -> LOL, more seriously, have you never been to a restaurant with Chinese people? They always order too much food and throw away a lot of it, apparently it's a sign of wealth and good for their face if you can't finish everything, I see it as a sign of stupidity. The same when I was invited at friend's homes, one of my friends, his wife made dumplings for the spring festival, when she saw that I was eating a lot she made even more until I couldn't finish it then threw away the leftovers, and this is one example among many.

Yes, cause I always pay and never order. Some of the left overs go home.

Surprise.

Yet another pathetic attempt by this dump to prove how 'cool' they are.

Maybe they can copy Amsterdam's tradition of commuting by bike ? Not the electric plastic toy, but the muscle powered one ? The tradition of using the right (or left, just pick *one* side) lane ?
