Q: Being realistic, what type of salary would satisfy you here? ESL teachers

I am curious as to what you all think would be a satisfying salary for you?  Based on your current class schedule, I assume most of you think you are underpaid, what would be an ideal salary.

Satisfy? I would be satisfied in China making 2/3 of a starting salary back in the States- around 15,000RMB/month. That would make me feel like I wasn't missing out on great opportunities to save money and advance my career. Then again, fellow UConn graduates in their early 20s with liberal arts degrees who stayed in America aren't exactly living the dream, either.

JungleLife:

Good point. That always stressed me as well when teaching in China, was that I knew I could be saving much more money back home. So I used some time to study and upgrade to compensate.

I'd say for a second or third teir city, the minimum would be 10,000. For a tier one, 15,000 is the minimum.

Pay me 18,000 per month with the usual perks and I'll be satisfied.

For me? 7 to 8k per month. 5-6k is fine for a university.

Accommodation must be provided... no exceptions. Z visa/insurance/etc, are also required.

For me I think the salary is decent. Money is money any amount is satisfying. Now if you or I were to get more than I'd be more satisfied. But still I'm pretty satisfied because I'm getting experience and it helps me grow.

I find that experience that comes with the job is irreplaceable.  I mean they actually have websites that are designed for teachers. By submitting your teaching ideas you can get paid. The opportunities are endless so I'm satisfied regardless of how much it is I am making although I would be more satisfied if I made more.
