Q: The best answer to Chinese stupidity?

What do you think is the best answer in the face of obvious Chinese stupidity? You know when some people talk about you, make openly racist or xenophobic statements thinking that you tingbudong. I've come to realize that these people are who they are because education in China is backward and sucky, far below first world standards in every aspects. Just give it a crooked smile and be glad that you are not them, be grateful to your parents and to your country for giving you proper education. Arguing is a waste of time even in Chinese and they are not worth your time anyway.

An interesting question. From a macro point of view I agree with you completely. They have completely wrecked their future among many across the globe as they keep thinking they are being smart. Everyone I know of who have dealt with them, from lifeguards at public beaches in tourist spots outside china to duty free shop sales, all darkened their face immediately when the word mainlander is mentioned, not to mention seasoned china expats. These kids are invariably fresh graduates out of high school, they are supposedly to have a positive, even rosy, outlook!  These "kids", when I asked them their experience with mainlanders, 100%, no exception, said, "smart they are, but they use their brain in a twisted manner".   We all know what these "kids" mean, squirming through cracks, taking advantage of grey areas, sleazy, abusive, argue with twisted logic, mannerless....etc.

This infamous group is now widely recognized as scumbags across the globe. How can a group of 'people', en masse, like this have a future? On a micro level, you can't deny they are 'smart' (steal copyright, create fakes, lie, scam, finding your buttons and press them, hey if you aren't criminally-smart how the hell can you think of, and manufacture fake eggs, poisonous milk, plastic rice, wall-plaster medicine, opium-laced noodles....?). The best word I can think of that describes them is "kamikaze pilots". They think they are brave and powerful! hahaha.

They are all without exception. etc etc

These absolutes sound like the rantings of a right winger knob hole. You are quite on the money if you substitute 'all' for 'the majority of' or 'most', because yes many mainlanders are like that, but to pretend there are no exceptions is your error.

Now that is some stupid framing by taking a few words out of context.  Read this again, if you need help find an adult who knows how to read english.

I was talking about the lifeguards at beaches and sales in duty free shops. Don't tell me you are an ESL teacher. I wouldn't bother commenting on your mental acumen.

Seriously I pray you're not an English teacher with such a poor grasp of the language. Also you really shouldn't have ten fucking accounts try to back up your own spurious nonsensical bigoted shite. Stupid troll, please kill yourself and help us save oxygen.

They have a future as long as there is new territory to invade and despoil.

Unfortunately this kind of cancer is way beyond TCM's capability to address. It is as you say spreading. Two young mainland sales girl I met at a trade show outside china said this when I lamented at the general  deterioration of customer service (outside china),  "we taught them to be bad". The way they giggled as they said that made you shudder. You can bet these two weren't the only ones who fully knew what other mainlanders were doing, on purpose.

Dumb things I've witnessed Mainlander tourists or recent immigrants doing in the past two weeks alone:

1) back-to-school open house at a public  school. Two parents walking into a teacher's  classroom with a red envelope of actual greenbacks. I saw them in the school lobby discussing with each other in Mandarin how much to give. Mrs. said $100 , while Mr. thought $200 was better. Not sure how much cash finally made it into the hongbao or whether the teacher accepted it.

2) admissions tour at an Ivy League university. Chinese parents and their son. Based on their English, fairly recent immigrants. They brought their actual DOG on the tour. Yes, you read that right. This was not a seeing eye or other service dog, but a fluffy, hyper dog with no leash training. It kept pulling on the leash, squeaking and generally being a nuisance. They even brought the dog inside buildings. The tour guide was so shocked he didn't say anything.

3) in a quiet and relatively elegant restaurant, Chinese people making so much noise that other patrons asked to be moved. The Chinese people didn't leave a tip.

I'm not sure how much better education would have prevented these situations. It's more about lack of common sense and the inability to look around themselves, observe what others are doing and adapt.

I'm not surprised by any of these incidents, just typical of the selfishness and ignorance that are so pervasive in the mainland. These lovely values are China's newest export to the west. Why tip? You're a fool to throw away money in their minds. They probably felt the meal was too expensive anyway. Since they paid they feel they should have the right  to behave however they choose and stay as long as they want because that's how they do it in the mainland.

It is not about academic education. It is a culture of selfishness that has been encouraged. I don't know if it was was product of the cultural revolution or the thousands of years of famine but it will be here for a while.

It's not worth arguing with strangers in the mainland as long as they don't physically touch you or intentionally offend you. Most wouldn't understand that what they say is racist and offensive to anyone outside the mainland. It's why Hkers , Taiwanese, Japanese, Koreans, other Asians and most of the world look down on them. Don't view them as individuals because most have no distinguishing features from others. Just realize they are part of a sick society and their behavior is a byproduct of that.

Would you yell at a random dog on the street for barking or sniffing another dog's ass?

I totally agree with Dongbeirens sentiment but saying it in less aggressive terms:

We know that getting things done here is annoying and that people here can be difficult even beyond a language barrier. So my theory is don't let them in. Don't base your happiness on random tradesmen and strangers on the street being reasonable with you.

If we know that people in the mainland are very difficult, then get mad at yourself for being in a position to depend on someone you know is going to be unreliable.

We're not anybodies parents here, it's not my job to teach people not to spit on the floor or leave trash everywhere. What I can control is to try and seek out buildings with a minimum number of people like that.

Whenever I hear someone rant about something, I always look for what they could have done differently to avoid the problem.

It's kinda like what the alcoholics say, you gotta have the strength to control what you can, the peace to let go of what you can't and the judgement to know the difference.

dongbeiren:

"We're not anybody's parents" - exactly. I've increasingly wanted to confront people for littering, letting children shit on the street, etc. but it's not worth it and pointless to lash out at one individual and letting your bottled up anger out at that one person. It's also impossible to call out everyone for unsanitary/uncivilized behavior as you'd be exhausted fighting with people all day and probably end up getting physically attacked by someone who wants you to mind your own business. So I'm doing something about it - my wife and I will be leaving China this winter. We are looking at buying one way tickets to America this week in fact.

Prresumnig one has the Putonghua (or local NongHua skills)... you could say:

"a) I understood everything you said, b) you've now just lost a ton of face because of that, and c) you obviously haven't left your country, because you have no idea of what the people outside of China think of YOU!"
