Q: best place to rent in Yuexiu district, Guangzhou

Hi all

I will be moving to Guangzhou, Yuexiu district from UK for work beginning of MArch and would like to know how much it is to rent a decent apartment approximately, from top ( western quality) to mid range to basic , including utilities per month.

My employer is offering a $1000 housing allowance a month- what can I get for this?

When I say top quality, I mean modern 1 bed apartment with a gym onsite, if this kind of thing exists? If no gym onsite, how much is membership in this district?

Do the chinese like to flat/house share- guess it would be better than living on my own. If there's a site where I can find other flat sharers Chinese and Expat, that'd be great to know too.

Thanks in advance

With that much since Guangzhou is not considered a big city that amount would get you a really nice place. Most of the apartments that have gyms won't allow you to use it unless you pay for a membership of some kind. It shouldn't be that much maybe 100 to 200 dollars a month. People do like to share apartments, but it's not always a good idea.

Mattie, for your info, Guangzhou is the 3rd largest city in China.

US$1,000 per month will get you a very nice 1 bedroom apartment.  Just don't expect things like an oven, dish washer or clothes dryer.  None of those items are common in China.  If you see something that looks like it should be a dishwasher, it is probably a dish sanatizer. (Doesn't wash dishes, but uses hot steam to sanitize dishes.  Very common in the Guangzhou area.)

Most apartment buildings do not have gyms.  Or if they do, they are very small.  However, you can get a membership at the many huge gyms relatively cheaply.  If I remember right, they are about 500-1400 US per year depending on the package you get.

Guangzhou is a great city.  It has a lot to offer and in my opinion beats cities like Shanghai & Beijing hands down.

USD 1000/ month will be enough to rent a nice place in most districts, and you won't need to share

you can find a place in taojin gardens  its a nice neighbourhood, some gardens eve have pools, prices will start at around 4000rmb a month and utilities shouldnt be much unless you leeave the ac on all day long or sumfin, you can find some gyms in the center and they will cost like 4000rmb for half a year ,try the real estate agencies theres like over 20 in taojin but you have to be tough with them cos they will try and rip you off.

guangzhou is a big place why limit yourself to yuexiu, its a nice place if you are looking western restaurants and bars, but id advise you not to go there theres always some issue with the police and the african community
