I still remember the good ole' days of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero and Kungfu Hustle.
Have there been any other more recent Chinese movies that are as good as these old ones?

Hero was ok but Crouching Tiger was such a bore... it was a kind of compilation of scenes from different older movies. I see it as a "kung fu movie for dummies", and I think its success owes a lot more to its American production, advertising and distribution than on its qualities alone.
This said, I've watched a lot of recent movies from both China and HK and, just like their american counterparts, the superproductions use too much CGI to compensate the poor stories. And just like in the west, those with the heaviest promotion happened to be either dull or stupid, but thankfully there's been a lot of good stuff as well. I don't remember them all but La Comedie Humaine, Dream Home, Ocean Heaven were excellent movies.
Hey if you want to watch a movie that deals with deeper issues in China, family, tradition, culture and the mass movement of people across the continent take a look at Last Train Home. Made or released last year it won a heap of awards internationally. I highly recommend it. you will also know why it's damn hard to get a train ticket at certain times of the year.
Last train home, yes, I didn't remember the name.
The scene at the GZ train station was filmed in 2008 when some lines were closed because of snow storms (not in GZ of course) and there was up to one million people waiting outside...
And actually is it not a canadian movie rather than a chinese one ? Anyway, it doesn't matter, the movie was very well done.
By the way, I'd like to know what happened to the family after the movie, if they still work at the Dongguan factory, if their daughter is still working in that Shenzhen club...
WUXIA (2011), i watched it 4 times and still I would watch it again. Epic. Love the soundtrack and the way it has been shooted.
CHENZHEN (both tv series and movie)
and some movies of Feng Xiao Gang
I saw the preview of that movie filmed I believe in Shanghai...it was a mixed martial arts film ...haven't seen too many chinese movies lately so I would say that...
I've seen Return to 1942 (Twice). Actually it is the only Chinese movie I have ever watched. I thought it was excellent.
