Q: Best remedies for a cold in China?

What's the best medicine against a cold here? I don't know why, but I am sick much more often here.

Dust, pollution, etc will do that to you.

There are thousands of remedies for a cold sold here, but somehow I remember what my doctor back home told me, there is no medicine to cure a cold.  Rest, plenty of liquids, and from 5 days to a week should "cure" you.

But you can buy from antibiotics to liquids and all in between by the ton, and still have the cold until a week later.

Now, you can control a runny nose, or a sore throat if you have that too, but can not cure the cold.

As happy expat said rest and fluid is the only thing that can help to rid you of a cold. Symptoms can be relieved though with cold and flu tablets.
For your sake and that of everyone DO NOT go down the antibiotic/drip road. Useless for cold and flu and makes antibiotics in general less effective when you really need them.
As for prevention good health and washing hands are the best things you can do.

Consuming lots of garlic and ginger is good. It'll strengthen your immune system. Make sure to get lots of vitamin C in your diet too. An old-time remedy is hot lemon juice and honey. You may have to drink litres of it, but if it doesn't flush out the flu, it'll certainly help you to detox in other ways.

Strangely, the best cold relief remedy I've found here is not really medicine, but I found it in a tea shop in Henan.  Heat up a teapot with Coke and a ton of sliced ginger.  Drink like tea.  Won't cure anything, but it helps the throat a bit and clears the nose.

A:Your potential employer is right! Purpose of the Medical exam before granting Z visa is to make sure, you won't be entering China in any abnormal and harmful to others condition.Few days after your arrival to China, you'll be required to complete another ME ... If ME in China will be OK, you'll get a Residence permit stamp into your book some 10-days afterwards. Imagine, you're an employer, who can sponsor my entry and work in China, but after my arrival to China would be found I carry some sickness, which would prevent Chinese .gov to issue a Residence permit. Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after entry to China.    So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards. Employer is not wrong at their demand for the pre-arrival ME from your home country hospital.   -- icnif77
